Chamber membership mixer on October 18

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a membership mixer on Wednesday, October 18 at The Inn at Ohio Northern University from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Director Lindsay Walden Hollar notes, "We will discuss Small Business Saturday and our Merry on Main event. After our meeting, we encourage you to head to the Ada School Board candidate forum being hosted at the Dicke College at 7:00 p.m. 

Rosemary Miller worked for Upper Scioto Valley Schools

Rosemary Miller, age 77, of Alger, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at 9:28 p.m. at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. 

Rosemary was born on September 17, 1946 in Albion, Michigan to the late Rev. Seward and Mary (Hurt) Dyer. On January 1, 1993 Rosemary married Daniel Miller and he survives in Alger. 

Thomas named Ohio Outstanding Master Gardener

HARDIN COUNTY__Kim Thomas was one of ten individuals recognized as “Outstanding Master Gardener Volunteer” at the 2023 MGV State Conference Awards Program held October 12-14.

The local Hardin County OSU Extension group was also nominated for four other state awards at the conference. The project ‘Educational Native Plants Landscape Beds’ was recognized as the state winner in the “Community Service Outstanding MGV Project” award category for small sized groups.

"Forward Together" ONU fundraising campaign breaks records

Ohio Northern University's Forward Together campaign exceeded expectations and blew past its $100 million goal, raising more than $112.7 million. The total represents the largest fundraiser in the University’s history. The university emphasizes that it will increase scholarships and financial aid for students, help the university continue to attract world-class faculty, and upgrade facilities.

The success of the three-year campaign was celebrated at Ohio Northern’s annual Henry Solomon Lehr Dinner, held Friday, Oct. 13, recognizing the University’s strongest supporters.

“We shared a bold, compelling vision for ONU’s future, and our community responded,” said President Melissa J. Baumann, Ph.D. “Our supporters understand the quality and outstanding return on investment of an ONU education. Thanks to their generosity, we will be able to help more students access that education and enrich the learning experience for all of our students.”

The campaign will help fund more than 200 new and existing scholarships.

Steven W. Ramey worked for Marathon Petroleum

Member of the Ada Exempted Village Schools Board of Education

Steven W. “Steve” Ramey, age 43, of Ada, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.  

He was born on December 10, 1979, in Lima, Ohio to Paul and Anitra (Holbrook) Nichols, they survive in Ada. On October 29, 2022, Steve married Terra N. Bryant and she survives in Ada.     

Also surviving is his daughter, Taylor Ramey of Ada; two brothers: Jacob (Tasha) Nichols and Chad (Latisha) Nichols; father and mother-in-law: Gary and Leslie Bryant; sisters-in-law: Glenna Pieraccini and Kayla (Matt) Harvey; brother-in-law: Kody LaPoint; uncle, Dwayne (Michelle) Holbrook; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Mara and Olivia Guyton. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother-in-law, Joyce Bryant; and brother-in-law, Nick Pieraccini.
