ADA - The visiting Allen East softball team bashed its way to an 18-0 lead and held on for a 20-9 win over local arch-rival Ada in Northwest Conference play Monday evening.  

The purple and gold fell to 4-5 and 0-2 in the NWC with the defeat. AE improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in league play after the big win.

"Obviously, not a great outing," said Ada head coach Rebecca Dicke.

The Mustangs broke the game open with nine runs in the second frame.

Summer McCluskey hit a solo home run, followed moments later by another longball when Olivia Craig smashed a three-run blast over the center field fence.

Miranda Wills improved her record to 6-2 with another 12-game sweep at third singles

ADA - The Ada tennis team dismissed Lima Central Catholic 4-1 Monday evening.

The Bulldog netters improved to 6-2 with the win, while LCC fell to 2-6 after the defeat.

Ada swept all three singles matches without losing a game to post the routine win over the Thunderbirds.

Cade Mullins and Isaac Spar each improved to 6-1 this season with double-bagel victories at first and second singles, respectively.

Miranda Wills improved her record to 6-2 with another 12-game sweep at third singles.

Gabe Hasan and Dexter Woods combined to win in straight sets at first doubles.

She was a member of Alger First United Methodist Church

Donna S. Guyton, 81, died on Monday, April 8, 2019, at 5:21 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born on Aug. 18, 1937 in Carver, Kentucky, to the late Sam and June (Push) Miller. On Aug. 15, 1954, Donna married J. Loren Guyton and he died on Dec. 20, 1997.

Donna was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Alger First United Methodist Church.  Donna loved helping her family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Greg (Toni) Guyton of Ada; two daughters: Teresa (Mark) Loving of Manton, Mich., and Lori (Mike) Novak of Brighton, Mich.;  seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Melovete Pummell of Alger.

The Ohio Northern men's tennis team moved to 7-6 on the season with a 9-0 sweep at Concordia (Mich.) on Monday afternoon at the Chippewa Tennis Club.

Sophomore Vinh Thai (Galloway/Saint Charles) and freshman Noah Elliott (Hilliard/Davidson) led the Polar Bears, who only lost 10 games in the match.

Thai won 6-1, (retired) at No. 1 singles and Elliott won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles after the pair had won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.
