Ada's Baumgartner wins twice at Oregon swim tri

The Ada High School swim teams competed in a three-team meet at Oregon Clay Tuesday, January 26, led by freshman Lily Baumgartner.

Margaretta finished first in the combined team standings. They beat Clay 184-119, while Clay defeated Ada 136-85. Margaretta out-pointed Ada 205-76 in the boys/girls team score.

The Lady Bulldogs lost a pair of competitive meets. They fell to the Clay Eagles 74-60, and lost to Margaretta 93-55.

Head-to-head the Eagles beat the Bulldog boys 62-25, and the Polar Bears defeated the Ada males 112-21.

Ada frosh Baumgartner won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke races to pace the Bulldog girls.

$1.2M in zoning permits issued in 2021

54 residential and commercial permits

In 2021 Zoning Inspector Michael Harnishfeger issued 54 zoning permits, up slightly from 53 in 2020. The estimated value of these permits was $1,245,069. 

Harnishfeger notes, “We had 1 new single-family home built and several additions. We had 3 homes demolished. The greatest requests continue to be permits for fences and sheds.”

“Our largest project in 2021 was a $790,000 Early Childhood Development Center on the campus of Ohio Northern University which began in December.”

Polaris annual submission deadline nears

Polaris, the annual undergraduate journal of arts and literature at Ohio Northern University is accepting submissions of previously unpublished undergraduate work for the 2021-2022 edition featuring fiction, nonfiction, poetry and visual art. Deadline: Feb 2, 2022.

Prizes are awarded in each genre: 1st Place – $50, 2nd Place – $25. Prizes are awarded by genre editors.

Winners will be published in Polaris and all contest entries will be considered for publication. There is no monetary compensation for general acceptances.

411Blast introduces HS sophomores to Apollo Career Center

Over 750 sophomores in Apollo Career Center’s 11-member district will be visiting Apollo during 411Blast, Friday, January 28, 2022. The school is located at 3325 Shawnee Rd, Lima, Ohio.

This day is designed to expose students to possibilities and pathways that are available for their career and/or college success. Students choose two programs of interest and then spend one-half day visiting those labs, meeting the instructors and participating in fun, interactive demos and activities. Two new programs have been added to this year's option.
