AHS girls soccer lose to Upper Sandusky

The Ada High School girls soccer team played well but lost 4-2 to visiting Upper Sandusky in a tough North Central Ohio Soccer Association match Thursday evening, September 22.

The Lady Bulldog record fell to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in NCOSA play with the defeat. Upper improved to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1 in NCOSA action with the win.

Ada trailed 1-0 when Olivia Burkhart tied the match on a through ball from Ella Marshall at the 22-minute mark.

Upper Sandusky regained the lead 2-1 at the halftime break.

September Board of Education meeting summary

The Ada Schools board of education met on Monday, September 19 with board members Amy Mullins, Matt Gossman, Ron Fleming and Ted Griffith present. Steve Ramey was absent.

PUBLIC COMMENTS
During the “Hearing of the Public” segment, Mullins advised visitor Adam Baumgartner that he had three minutes to address the board. Baumgartner spoke about his frustrations that 7th grade football players would go two weeks without any play time. He said the email response from the athletic department did not answer any of his questions. Mullins responded that the board would contact the athletic department and that someone would get back to him.

Fall Brawl wraps up Hardin County Tractor Pullers season

The Hardin County Tractor Pullers will host the final hook of 2022 on Saturday, September 24, at War Memorial Park.

  • Gates open at noon.
  • Pull starts at 3:00 p.m.

From the organizers: "Let make this one the biggest and best of the year. We have had a few sponsors donate some extra money for the Limited Street Gas 4x4 Class. Our Tentative order of pull for Saturday is posted on the flyer."

The Perfect Storm

The movie The Perfect Storm starring George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg depicted the sinking of the Andrea Gail boat off the coast of New England. The commercial fishing boat was out on a final mission looking for swordfish when a catastrophic storm hit in 1991. The boat and the six crew members disappeared in 30 to 40-foot waves.  Many family members of the crew were not pleased with the movie’s depiction of the accident, but ultimately lost the lawsuits brought against the studio. 

"Autumnal Equinox and Jupiter approaching" astronomy event on September 23

All are invited to drop by the ONU Observatory between 8:00-10:00 p.m. on Frinday, September 23 for the second astronomy public event of the Fall season.

Organizers note, "This event is a celebration of the autumnal equinox (the start of autumn).  This year, the actual moment when the Sun crosses the celestial equator on its way south is on September 22--around 9 pm EST.

AHS Homecoming brings Delphos Jeff to town

The Ada High School football team returns home after two straight road games to entertain Delphos Jefferson on Homecoming Friday, September 23.

Delphos Jeff enters the contest 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Northwest Conference play. The Wildcats beat a previously 3-1 Crestview squad 21-7 last Friday in Delphos.

DJ lost its NWC opener at Columbus Grove, 38-6.

"They have a high-powered offense," said Ada head coach Toby Smith about the Wildcats. "They do a lot of RPO (run pass option) stuff, and if we are not where we are supposed to be, they will make you look foolish.

Sunny, big, busy 2022 Harvest & Herb Festival

The 2022 Harvest & Herb Festival on September 17 was a like a great big, warm Ada hug. Main Street from Montford to E. University was filled with families and friends enjoying a day of shopping, eating and drinking, and celebrating fall. Complaints? That the wasps were enjoying themselves, too.

AHS volleyball swept by Bluffton; Sumner sets career digs mark

BLUFFTON--The visiting Ada High School varsity volleyball team lost in straight sets to local rival Bluffton Tuesday night, September 20, in Northwest Conference action.

The 25-16, 25-10, 25-16 loss dropped the Bulldog season record to 9-6 overall and 1-3 in NWC play. Bluffton improved to 9-2 and 2-0 in the NWC with the win.

Senior libero Courtney Sumner broke the Ada career record with 23 digs to reach 807. The previous record of 799 was held by Miranda Wills.

AHS boys soccer knots Lincolnview

The Ada High School boys soccer team led most of the game but ended up in a 1-1 tie against visiting Lincolnview Monday evening, September 19, in Northwest Conference action under the lights at War Memorial Park Stadium.

The Bulldog record moves to 4-2-3 overall and 1-0-1 in NWC play with the tie. Lincolnview ran its mark to 3-4-1 and 1-1-1 in the NWC with the result.

Bulldog Carson Gossard scored with 31:25 left in the first half on a Logan Jolliff assist to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Lincolnview had several good scoring chances in the opening half, but the Ada defense kept them off the scoreboard.
