Ohio Supreme Court Justice Pat DeWine will offer a free, public presentation on “The Role of Justice” at Ohio Northern University at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Tilton Hall, Room 129.

Justice DeWine began his six-year elected term on the Ohio Supreme Court in 2017. He is known for the quality and thoroughness of his legal opinions, which reflect his strong belief in judicial restraint and his respect for the constitutional roles of the other co-equal branches of government.

Online and In-School Education Boosting Number of New OHSAA Officials

COLUMBUS–Facing a growing shortage of interscholastic sports officials across Ohio, the Ohio High School Athletic Association has moved all classroom instruction for new officials to the convenient virtual platform RefPrep and is also asking member schools to offer the online officiating curriculum during the school day for students to begin the process of becoming a licensed official. A number of schools across Ohio have already begun offering the RefPrep class.

Peg and Dick Lawrence of Ada, Ohio will celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary on September 8.

They were married on September 8, 1957 at Dola Presbyterian Church. They have three children: Jill Meyer, Juli Miller, Jeff Lawrence; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

From the Lawrences: "What a wonderful life we have shared together." They have lived and been involved in Ada community for 65 years. Peg retired from Lima Memorial Hospital and Dick retired from Apollo Career Center.

The family will have a private celebration.

FINDLAY⎯The Ada High School golf team lost a dual match to Arlington at Sycamore Springs Golf Course Wednesday evening, September 7.

The Red Devils beat Ada, 229 strokes to 252. Senior Geddes Klingler paced the Bulldogs with a 46 to finish second in the match.

Junior Jack Baumgartner carded a 52, while senior Dale Hoyt registered a round of 68. Freshman Sam Crawford was the fourth Ada scorer with a score of 86. Frosh Jayden Shaffer added an 88.

Red Devil James Meikoe was match medalist with a round of 44.

The Bulldogs fell to 1-17 with the defeat.

Manager Andy Wentling told us the following: “No garage sale [in 2022]. It is going to be several years until we can do it again as we are growing / expanding and no longer have the room to have the garage sale.”

At the Sept. 6 regular meeting of the Ada Village Council, councilors approved the startup of a Village green waste site in response to a request by the Ada Tree Commission.

In the attached memo, Village Administrator Jamie Hall outlines the service, which will be for Ada residents only.

By appointment, residents will be allowed to bring "green waste" such as yard clippings, leaves and tree branches to the Village site at 514 E. Lincoln. See the attachment for a detailed description of what may and what may not be brought to the site. Unloading must be done by the resident.

The Ada High School golf team competed in a four-team Northwest Conference match Tuesday, September 6, at the Bluffton Golf Course.

Lincolnview won with 168 strokes, followed by Bluffton (175), Delphos Jefferson (179) and Ada (232).

Isaac Gallmeier was match medalist with with a one-under par score of 35. Pirate Jaden Coonfare was second with a 37. Jack Baumgartner led Ada with a round of 47, while Geddes Klingler shot a 50. Dale Hoyt posted a 63 while Jayden Shaffer carded a 72 to round out the Bulldog scorers. Sam Crawford shot 76.

COLUMBUS–On September 6, the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced the new divisional breakdowns for upcoming spring sports (2023). The OHSAA Board of Directors approved the new divisions during its meeting the prior week.

For the first time, the OHSAA’s spring sports will include boys volleyball. There will be two divisions of boys volleyball due to the spike in the number of schools now having a team, which has gone from 85 to almost 160 schools since the OHSAA announced earlier this year that it will sanction the sport.

Fall and winter sports divisional breakdowns were announced in June.

Ross M. Koogler, age 67, Belle Center, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his family. 

He was born on May 11, 1955, in Lima, Ohio to the late James and Margaret (Hefner) Koogler.  On May 15, 1976, Ross married Kywana J. Harless and she survives in Belle Center.

Also surviving are his children: Justin Isaac (Jessica) Koogler of Merom, IN, Chanidi Benjamin of Wapakoneta, and Tiffini (Jeremy) Flugga of Alger; five grandchildren: Melissa, Elika, Ryker, Kaci and Gunnar; and two brothers: Kenneth Koogler of Lima, and Nelson (Sharon) Koogler of Beaverdam.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Koogler.

Barbara Ann “Peachy” Pitts, 87, of Alger, OH and formerly of Guage, KY, was peacefully enfolded in her Savior’s arms on September 4, 2022, at Vancrest of Ada. During her life, she was a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus and a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. Her laugh and smile were contagious, and her prayers for her family and others were frequent and sincere.
