AHS Boys Soccer alumni scrimmage August 5

Ada High School is hosting a boys soccer alumni scrimmage at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5.

Admission is free and past Ada players are welcome to in on the turf at War Memorial Stadium.

Jerseys: Alumni will wear white and current high school boys will wear purple.

McGuffey outdoor movie night August 5

The McGuffey Memories historical society will host a family outdoor movie night on Friday, August 5.

Beginning at 9:15 p.m. the society will show the animated feature film Clifford: The Big Red Dog.

The showing will be on the lawn behind the community center, 404 Courtright St., McGuffey. Free popcorn and drinks will be served.

Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

All I Have to Do Is Dream

The Everly Brothers released their hit single “All I Have to Do Is Dream” in 1958.  This followed their 1957 hit “Wake Up Little Susie.” The songs were written by the prolific duo of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant.  The legendary Chet Atkins played the guitar for The Everly Brothers on both singles. The Everly Brothers were known as an American rock duo and as pioneers of country rock.  

Ada Pool networking for next summer

The Ada Municipal Pool will be open through August 13 and managers are in planning mode for 2023:

"We are already starting to gather ideas for next season. If you, or someone you know, are interested in potentially applying to the pool for next summer please fill out the attached Google Form. Please give us as much information about yourself as you can.

"Applications will come out sometime next year towards the end of winter-beginning of spring, but this will help us to get an idea of what positions people are interested in."

Cashiers, lifeguards and managers are part of the pool team.

August 14 Noteworthy Community Choir anniversary concert

Noteworthy Community Choir (NCC), a multigenerational ensemble with members from several local communities, is celebrating it's fifth anniversary with a concert. NCC will be sharing music selections from each of its seasons in an August 14 concert at the County Line Church of the Brethren.

Tickets are $10, which includes the show as well as a dessert and drink at intermission.

There will also be door prizes and a 50-50 drawing.

Money raised by this event will be used to purchase music and technical equipment for the choir's future performances.

Ada Schools announce updated free and reduced price meal policy

Applications are required for 2022-2023

Ada Exempted Village Schools has announced its 2022-2023 program year policy for free and reduced price meals or free milk for students unable to pay the full price of meals or milk served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast, After School Care Snack or Special Milk Programs. Each school office and the central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party.

Hydrant flushing during August

The Village of Ada has the following announcement for water customers and users:

August is hydrant flushing month here in the Village. Beginning August 8, 2022, we will be performing our routine hydrant flushing.

During this process there may be a slight discoloration of the water caused by sediment or rust being flushed from the water mains. Households experiencing this should not be alarmed. The water will clear up once it is run for a short time.

Should you experience rusty colored water, we suggest you run the cold water from the faucet nearest to the water meter to flush the service.

James “J.R.” Phipps worked at SumiRiko Ohio

James “J.R.” Phipps, age 43, of Ada, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, at his residence in Ada, surrounded by his family.  

He was born on August 30, 1978, in Hobart, IN to Mary E. (Phipps) Hale.  His mother and father, Mary and Doyal Hale preceded him in death.

J.R. is survived by two children: Kadin and Khloe Phipps; a special friend: Roxanne Velasquez; two brothers: Cann “Casey” Phipps, and Christopher (Rita) Hale; and a sister, Angie (Kevin) Hunt.  J.R.’s  mother-in-law: Ida Velasquez also preceded him in death.

Bill Russell: most valuable player ever

Celtic legend Bill Russell is arguably the most valuable player ever in NBA history, and perhaps even in all of team sports.

He died Sunday at age 88 following the deaths of Celtic legend teammates Tom Heinsohn, John Havlicek and Sam Jones in recent years. Only the almost 94 year old Bob Cousy has outlived them all.
