1971 Ada HS NWC Champs reunion October 22

On October 22, at the last Ada HS football game, members and coaches from the undefeated 1971 Ada HS NWC Championship team will be present to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that season. At least 30 members of the team along with the Head Coach, Gary Ricker and two of the assistant coaches, Tom Dearth and Hal Honegger will be in attendance. 

The evening will begin with a team dinner in the park. The team and coaches will be introduced at halftime of the Ada High School football game at War Memorial Park Stadium.

Bulldog boys ground T-Birds

The visiting Ada boys soccer team knocked off Lima Central Catholic 4-1 Monday night, October 11, at Spartan Stadium.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-7-3 overall with the non-league win. 

LCC fell to 4-9 after the defeat.

Logan Jolliff tallied one goal and passed out two assists to lead the Bulldog offense. 

Carter Conley, Drew Long and Carson Gossard each scored one goal.

Ada keeper Colton Long made three saves in goal.

The Bulldog boys play at Marion Harding Thursday, Oct. 14.

Lady Bulldog kickers felled by Wildcats October 11

Visiting Delphos Jefferson defeated the Ada girls soccer team 6-3 in a Northwest Conference match Monday evening, October 11, at War Memorial Stadium.

The Lady Bulldog record dropped to 2-9-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the NWC after the defeat.

The Wildcat girls improved to 5-7-3 and 2-3-1 in the NWC with the win.

DJ led 4-0 at halftime, but Ada bounced back to outscore the Wildcats 3-2 after intermission.

Ella Marshall netted two goals for Ada, while Olivia Burkhart tallied the other goal. 

Ada Town and Gown, Citizen of the Year nominations sought

The Ada Town and Gown Association is accepting nominations for Distinguished Citizen of the Year for both 2021 and 2020. As it did last year, the organization will forego a banquet due to COVID-19 concerns.

Ann Lowry Coe was homemaker and "antiquer"

Ann Lowry Coe, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 10:00 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.    

She was born on March 15, 1940 in Fremont, Ohio to the late Robert K. and Jane (Buckley) Lowry. On October 17, 1959, Ann married Thomas E. Coe who preceded her in death on March 31, 2019.  Ann and Tom lived in Ada, Ohio their entire lives, celebrating nearly 60 years of marriage together.

Ada HS football plays Crestview October 15

The Ada High School football team plays league foe at Crestview Friday, October 15 as both try to break losing skids.

Crestview (5-3, 2-3 NWC) lost a 29-28 nailbiter to visiting Spencerville last Friday. The Knights are rated ninth in the Div. VII, Region 26 rankings, putting them firmly in playoff position despite losing their last two contests. 

Ada (1-7, 0-5 NWC) is 21st in Region 26 afer losing five in a row. 

"Crestview will be a tough game," said Bulldog head coach Toby Smith. "They are a very sound football team. We are going to have to improve on the defensive side of the ball if we are going to have a chance to compete.

McGuffey Fall Festival October 17

The McGuffey Memories Historical Society is hosting a Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 17 at the McGuffey Community Building, 404 Courtright St. All money raised will go towards future events and providing free activities for the community.

Fall Festival activities for children include

  • Pumpkin painting
  • Corn pit play area
  • S’mores

Rotary will live stream Board of Education candidate forum October 13

Ada Rotary Club will live stream its forum for Ada Board of Education candidates on the club’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AdaRotaryClubOfOhio)  for those who cannot attend in person.

The forum is scheduled Wednesday evening, October 13, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Dicke Hall on the campus of Ohio Northern University.

All six candidates for two open seats are participating. They include Chase Archer, Adam Baumgartner, Denise D’Arca, Ron Fleming, Margaret Gordon and Ted Griffith. Fleming is the only incumbent.

Ada girls soccer seeded eighth

The Ada girls soccer team will play at Cory-Rawson Tuesday, October 19 at 5 p.m. in sectional first round action.

The Lady Bulldogs (2-8-1) were seeded eighth and the Hornet girls (4-8-1) were seeded ninth in the Div. III Bluffton sectional/district.

The Ada/C-R victor will play at top seed Liberty-Benton (9-4-2) Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. The winner advances to the district semifinals at Bluffton Oct. 26 against the Ashland Crestview/Van Buren (8-4-1) winner. 

Mansfield Christian was seeded second and Bluffton third in the 10-team bracket.

Ada spikers to play Grove in sectionals

The Ada volleyball team was seeded 11th in the 12-team Div. IV Elida sectional drawing held Sunday, October 10.

Ada (2-17) will visit league rival and fellow Bulldog Columbus Grove (7-12) in the sectional semifinals Tuesday, October 19 at 5 p.m. 

Ada lost 3-0 at Grove September 16.

The Bulldog battle survivor will play at fourth seed Pandora-Gilboa (12-7) October 21 at 6:30 p.m. The winner advances to the district semifinals Oct. 26 at Elida. 

Sixth seed Hardin Northern (12-8) hosts number 10 seed USV (4-12) in the other first round matchup in the lower half of the bracket. The winner plays at second seed New Knoxville (18-1) Oct. 21.
