Village has opening for groundskeeper

Season, part-time position now available

The Village of Ada is seeking applicants for the position of groundskeeper, according to Jami Hall, village administrator.

"The successful applicant will perform maintenance on village grounds," he said. "Duties will include mowing, mulching, weeding, watering downtown flower baskets, pruning and general custorial cleaning."

The position is seasonal with part-time hours, for an estimated 15 weeks at apprximately 25 hours per week.

Depending on the weather, some Saturday or Sunday hours are required. The pay rate for this position is $15 per hour. Applications will be considered until a successful applicant is selected.

Janet Zimmerman 1937 - 2021

Janet M. Zimmerman, 83, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021, at 5 a.m. at the Liberty Retirement Community, Lima.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1937 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Samuel H. and Gertrude (Margis) Stephenson. On May 5, 1973, Janet married Karl T. Zimmerman and he preceded her in death on May 13, 2008.

Janet worked as a nurse’s aide at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.  And she formerly worked at Rinks Store in Lima in the Sportswear Department. She also worked at ONU in the cafeteria.  Janet was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ada.

I am not a big dessert guy. My wife makes super dinners. She does usually put some fruit into a little bowl for our after-dinner treat. It’s the opposite of eating chocolate cheesecake in America. And it does keep me passing health checks, so there is that.

Meet three Klondikes • Matthew Morgan • Jillian Sugden • Savannah Carter

FROM ONU FACEBOOK - Ohio Northern’s favorite polar bear, Klondike, was actually three students this school year, as Matthew Morgan, Savannah Carter and Jillian Sugden unmasked this month.

Here’s their stories:

Matthew Morgan is earning a Psychology major and double minors of Applied Statistics and French. He became a Klondike the spring of his freshman year.

Matthew has been Klondike for every Welcome Weekend since his sophomore year.

More than 200 tagged trout stocked in the Buckeye quarry

FROM BLUFFTON ICON - After a one-year absence, those who enjoy fishing can head for the Bluffton Buckeye quarry to cast nets for more than 200 tagged trout on Sunday, May 2.

Trout number one is worth thousands in cash if caught during derby hours, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The jackpot is built up with $5 donations to a 50/50 drawing.

PTSD may arise from a wide variety of contexts, such as natural disasters, motor vehicle-related accidents, sexual assault and assault. It is also commonly associated with wartime activities like direct combat. 

Chamber hears about Hardin Solar III Energy Center

First chamber in-person meeting in 14 months

After holding off for 14 months, Ada Area Chamber of Commerce held its first in-person membership meeting on April 21.

As expected, there was much on the agenda. Several of those announcements involve programming returning to the Ada scene this summer. Those events will be covered this week in greater detail on the Icon.

Erin Saal, associate renewable development staff member for Invenergy, updated chamber members on the Hardin Solar Development project in the McGuffey area.

“The project is a solar power generation facility of up to 300 megawatts (MW), targeted to begin operating in 2023," she said.

Eddie Nichols worked at Superior Coach for 20 years

Eddie L. Nichols, 81, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 10:05 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System. 

He was born on April 26, 1939, in Salyersville, Kentucky, to the late Hargis and Polly Ann (Keaton) Nichols. On April 9, 1957, Eddie married Dorothy J. Mayer and she preceded him in death on June 28, 2018.

Eddie retired from Superior Coach of Lima after working for 20 years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid coon hunter.  Eddie enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Spring golf outing supports Ada football

June 5 at Colonial Golf Club

Ada Athletic Boosters announce an Ada football golf outing with all proceeds going to the Ada football program. The announcement was made on the Ada Athletic Boosters Facebook.

The outing is Saturday, June 5, at Colonial Golfers Club, 10985 Harding Highway, Harrod. Registration begins at noon and the play begins at 1 p.m.

The outing is a four-person scramble. Entry is $55 per person, which includes green fees and dinner provided by Midwest BBQ. Skins are available.
