Ada teachers will receive first vaccination on Feb. 19

School announces a two-hour delay for students on the 19th

Ada schools tentatively scheduled a two-hour delay for students on Friday, Feb. 19. The school will confirm this delay earlier in the week of the 19th.

"The purpose for this delay is to allow our staff to receive the first dose of their Covid-19 vaccines," Meri Skilliter, superintendent said.

Her entire announcement is on the school website.

"The governor’s office released a list of schools who should be able to get vaccines each week, with a goal of all educators in the 1B group to have their first shots by March 1," she said.

The state also assigns approved providers to work with schools to vaccinate its employees.

About four hours ago I received the first of two covid-19 vaccinations

It was a Moderna O12M20A, in case you wondered, and here's how it all came together

About 60 years ago, more or less, I received a polio vaccine delivered in a sugar cube.

This was administered twice, on different Sundays after church services, in the multi-purpose room of the Bluffton elementary school.

I recall walking from First Methodist Church to the school to stand in line for the vaccine. I can’t remember who gave me the sugar cubes.

And, about four hours ago, I received the first of two covid-19 vaccinations. Jane Agner, nurse at Bluffton Hospital, gave me the vaccine.

Steve Arnold and Brian Clum go way back.

"We met in Kindergarten at Allen East," laughs Brian.

Mrs. Dickey was their teacher that year, and it was 1974-75. They played T-ball together and were in Lafayette Cub Scout Pack 11 together.

Spending each high school year together, Steve was Brian’s best man in Brian and Kelly’s wedding in 1990.

As they went their own paths, they stayed in touch. And, this winter their paths crossed again.

Steve, now a resident of Willow City, North Dakota, has created a series of competition barbecue products under the brand name Arnold’s Misfit Acres.
