The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team fell to Division II Hillsdale (Mich.) 215-40 and Case Western Reserve 220-35 on Saturday at the Veale Natatorium.
Freshman Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine) led the Polar Bears (4-5 overall) placed fourth in the 200 back in 2:16.90
Starkey was also part of the 200 free relay, which placed sixth in 1:45.71. Joining her were senior Kyley Stuart (Ada), sophomore Lauren Shaw (Port Clinton), and sophomore Megan Lubinski (Milford/Brighton).
Freshman Abby Schauer teamed up with Starkey, Stuart, and Lubinski for a seventh-place finish in the 400 medley relay in 4:18.50.

Paul O. Nau, 91, died on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at 7:10 p.m. Vancrest of Ada.
He was born on Jan. 18, 1929, in Port Clinton, Ohio, to the late Clair and Isabelle (Reamer) Nau. On June 27, 1954, Paul married Mary Lou Garland and she survives in Ada. He is survived by two sons: David (Martha) Nau of Ada and Bill (Terri) Nau of Maumee; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and a sister: Sue (Bob) Miedl of Richfield.

Bid results for Ada’s Lincoln Street Phase 3 project slated for 2020 came in lower than expected, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
An original engineer’s estimate was $2.5 million. An ODOT estimate was $2.4 million. Nine bids on the project ranged from $2.1 to $2.9 million. Those bids were opened on Jan. 23. The bidding results are at the bottom of this story.
The project has not yet been awarded, but the apparent low bidder is Beaverdam Contracting, Inc. of Bluffton, with a bid of $2,172,000.
CRESTLINE - The Ada swim teams competed at the North Central Ohio Swim League championship meet hosted by Colonel Crawford Saturday in Crestline.
The Lady Bulldog swimmers finished a solid third at the eight-team title meet. Meanwhile, the short-handed Bulldog boys came in fifth.
Upper Sandusky won the boys team crown by a wide margin over host Colonel Crawford, 398-218. CC captured the girls team title over the second-place Rams, 341-245.
The Bulldog girls scored 160 points, while the boys tallied 105.
Ada senior ace Klava Katayama won both of her events, the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle.
After more than a month away from competition, the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team returned to action in emphatic fashion Friday night inside the ONU Sports Center. The Polar Bears won the Larry Cole Friday Night Invite, scoring 140 points.
Sophomore Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) led Northern. He paced the field in the 60-meter dash, boasting a time of 7.08, while adding a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 23.48.

Ada Diamonds Baseball/Softball registration takes place on three evenings this week.
Dates are from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Jan. 28-29-30) in the Dicke College of Business Administration room 140 on the ONU campus.
Six team opportunities are available ranging from T-ball to slow-pitch softball, fast-pitch softball, Pee-Wee baseball, Little League baseball and Pony League baseball.

The Ohio Northern football team will open its 2020 schedule with three consecutive home games, beginning with a non-conference battle with Denison on Saturday, Sept. 5, under 17th-year head coach Dean Paul.
The Polar Bears will also host Muskingum and Wilmington on Sept. 12 and 19, respectively.
ONU will take to the road on Sept. 26 at Otterbein and at Marietta on Oct. 3.
Northern will then return home to face John Carroll on Oct. 17 as part of Homecoming Weekend and will play at Capital on Oct. 24.
