Ada is official in the record books – the Guinness World Record book, in fact.
Many viewers reading this may have participated in the record-setting event. It was on Friday, Oct. 25 of this year at War Memorial Stadium.
On that autumn afternoon 950 people simultaneously threw an American football – coincidentally, an Ada-made Wilson football – and the rest is history.
The brainchild of Dan Lee, Ada middle and high school principal, Guinness notified him earlier this month of the success of the project, calling it “officially amazing.”

Ada Community:
WE DID IT! The Ada Community now holds a Guinness World Record. According to Guiness, “The most people throwing an American football simultaneously is 950 and was achieved by Ada Schools (USA) with the support of Wilson Football Factory, Ohio Northern University and Liberty National Bank in Ada, Ohio, USA on 25 October 2019.”
It’s truly living up to its motto, “Where blessings are given, and hope is restored.”

With a new name, busy retail store and programs growing in popularity, you’d think the fall season would be busy enough for Beatitudes.
Deb Curlis, store manager, couldn’t let Christmas 2019 pass by without adding a few special events, however, and the facility has been buzzing with holiday activity since before Thanksgiving!
Beatitudes’ Holiday Shopping Extravaganza kicked off on Nov. 11 and runs through Dec. 21. Curlis said the seasonal bargains have been a hit.
“There are lots of Christmas decorations, both gently used and new,” she added. “The prices are so good; you can buy for next year and beyond.”
With three-tenths of a second left, Ada freshman guard Courtney Sumner hit a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer from about 22 feet. But the shot was disallowed for being released just after the horn

HARROD - Visiting Ada lost a 45-44 nailbiter to backyard rival Allen East in a Northwest Conference girls basketball battle Thursday evening.
The Bulldog girls fell to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the NWC with the tough defeat. Meanwhile, the Lady Mustangs improved to 1-5 and 1-1 in league play following their first victory.
Ada led 12-10 after one period, but AE pulled ahead 24-19 at halftime. Senior Tori Newland netted eight points to lead a momentum-changing 14-7 second quarter for the Mustangs.
The Bulldogs outscored AE 13-9 in the third period to inch within 33-32 going into the final quarter.
Here's what's happening at local Ada and Alger churches over Christmas week:
The First Baptist Church of Ada will have a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec 24. A Christmas Day Gathering will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 25, with no sunday school. Rev. Jack Duffy is pastor. The church is located at 350 W. North Ave. (State Route 81).
The United Soccer Coaches released its Scholar All-American teams Wednesday. A couple familiar names on the Ohio Northern women's soccer team were recognized.
Junior forward Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) was named a first-team Scholar All-American, while senior midfielder Haley Moses (Mason) was a second-team Scholar All-American.
Fuller started all 24 games this past season. She netted a team-high 20 goals, which is the most by a Polar Bear in a single season since 1997. Fuller currently ranks fourth all-time in school history with 48 career scores, and her 43 points in 2019 gave her 113 for her career, which is good enough for sixth all-time.

At least one large flock of sandhill cranes was spotted recently in the skies over Ada.
To be more exact it's a construction, dance, sedge, siege or swoop of cranes – not a flock.
Jodi Brauen, on Tom Fett Road, between Bluffton and Ada, shared this photo and the Icon has heard from other viewers that they have also spotted these large birds in the area.
Click here for a YouTube video (not taken in this area, but give you a better idea of what to watch for in area skies).

To everything, there is a season. And I'm not talking about the fall, winter, spring, summer... or even the Christmas season, but the seasons that come with motherhood. These seasons are typified by little things, like diapers or high chairs, soccer balls or pom poms.
If you have a teenager, you may be in the season of door-slamming and hormones. If you have a growing boy, you may be in the season of monthly shoe-shopping, as you try to keep up with your son's ever-growing feet.
For me personally, I'm in the season of diapers, sleep deprivation and a dancing chicken toy.
