The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a county office receiving a suspicious package. At 11:30 a.m. this morning, Sheriff’s Office received a report from Hardin County Job and Family Services that they had received a suspicious package through the US mail service 

 

Investigators arrived on scene along with members from the Kenton Fire Department. It was determined that the building would be evacuated for the safety of the employees and public until the package and area could be rendered safe.

Happy Halloween

Today is Halloween in most parts of the nation, but in Ohio local authorities decide when to have trick or treat. Ada had three major events last week in observance of Halloween. But the folks at the Ada Public Library want to wish you Happy Halloween on the REAL date...today, the 31st.

On Monday, those who attended a special program at the library received a paper sack as they entered the darkened meeting room.  The sack contained a rats tail and other ghoulish items, so they were told. Spider rings, nasal strips, plastic eyeballs and bones were included in the small sack. It was all part of a party for 6-12th graders.

Preparations for 24th edition in the works

A regional holiday tradition will again take center stage with the 24th edition of Ohio Northern University’s “The ONU Holiday Spectacular” musical extravaganza.

The show will be presented in ONU’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 15, Nov. 16 and Nov.17, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Nov. 17. It also will be presented at the Lima Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2.

I am writing in support of the Ada Exempted Village Schools’ 2.9 mill permanent improvement levy that will face the Ada voters on November 6, 2018. 

As a RENEWAL tax, this five-year levy is not a new tax nor a tax increase.  The purpose of this tax is to provide permanent improvements for the school district.   By definition, this includes assets or site improvements which will last longer than five years.  Therefore, this levy is not permitted to be used for general operations, including salaries and benefits.

Some people sell pies, this young lady sells bricks. 

Emily Baker, a student intern in the ONU advancement office, offers bricks for sale for $50 each. The bricks are from Clark Hall, which was demolished last summer.

Clark served as a residence hall for many years and those who lived there at one time were the prime purchasers. The bricks serve as a fond memory of Clark, and certainly are a permanent memento.

Emily sold the inscribed bricks at the activities tent at Homecoming last weekend. If you missed your chance to buy one, call the advancement office at 419-772-2035.

Hoping to make Christmas merrier for those a long way from home

The Blue Star Mothers are asking for your help in two ways.

• They have placed a large box in the Ada High School office hoping that members of the community will fill it with gifts to make Christmas happier for those in the military service who are serving overseas.
• Also, they would like to be informed of the names of the men and women from Hardin County who currently are stationed in a foreign land.

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team would need just one goal from freshman midfielder Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) to upend Ohio Athletic Conference foe Otterbein 1-0 Tuesday evening in the OAC Tournament quarterfinal round at Memorial Stadium in Westerville.

With the first-round triumph, the Polar Bears improve to 12-7-1 overall and will travel to top-seeded Capital for the semifinals Thursday evening at 7 pm at Bernlohr Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals conclude their conference tournament run with an 8-8 overall record.
