Steven Knepper was a plumber for M&R and cabinet builder

Steven E. Knepper, 69, died March 7, 2018 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.  Steve was born Feb. 4, 1949, in Bluffton to the late Gerald and Marilynn (Cupples) Knepper. On Oct. 9, 1971, he married Doreen Basinger Knepper who survives.

Steve worked as a plumber for M&R Plumbing and Heating, Bluffton, and was also a self-employed cabinet builder. He was a member of the Reformed Mennonite Church in Bluffton. 

Ron Fleming honored for school service

 

Ron Fleming was recognized for 20 years of service to the Ada school board during the spring meeting of the Ohio School Board Association held in Spencerville. Ron is pictured here with his wife Nancy and two members of the OSBA.

$10,000 awaits the winner

Ada's fiber artists

First and third Wednesdays at the public library

Ladies meet at the Ada Public Library to do handwork at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of the month. Men may join, too.

On Wednesday evening this week, the fiber artists were making a baby blanket, baby sweater, a cross stitch wall piece, a dish cloth, and an afghan. Knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, embroidery, quilting are among the types of handwork people make.

Ada's Sumner in final 8 at state

Next match is Friday at 10 a.m.

Ada senior Chase Sumner won his first round match in the 145 lbs. bracket at the 81st annual state wrestling Div. III meet Thursday at the Schottenstein Center on the Ohio State University campus.

Sumner entered his third straight state competition late Thursday afternoon in Columbus.

In the first round of the double-elimination event, Sumner narrowly decisioned senior Nate Vasquez of Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic, 4-3.

The victory advanced Sumner to the quarterfinals Friday at approximately 10 a.m.

Baseball: ONU 3, Aurora 5

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Ohio Northern baseball team came up short on Thursday morning as it dropped a 5-3 decision to Aurora (Ill.) in the RussMatt Invitational in Auburndale, Florida.

The Polar Bears fall to 4-2 overall, while the Spartans move to 5-3.

Senior Hayden Shenefield (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) and juniors Caleb Thomas(Strongsville) and Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn) led Northern offensively with two hits each. The trio also each record an RBI.

ONU softball now 7-1

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Ohio Northern softball team defeated Illinois College 3-2, before suffering its first loss of the season 6-3 to Westminster (Pa.) during the Sunkissed Games in Kissimmee, Fla. on Thursday afternoon.

The Polar Bears move to 7-1 on the season, while the Lady Blues fall to 3-4 and the Titans improve to 3-5.

Senior Jenna Hollar (Lima/Bath) paced the Polar Bears offensively with a combined five hits, five runs scored, and two stolen bases to lead ONU in the two contests

Men’s tennis wins again

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team won its second consecutive match on Thursday morning as it swept Catholic (Wash.) 9-0 at Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Cardinals drop to 3-5.

Sophomore Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while freshman Drew Sarno (Elida) earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles to lead Northern.

Bloodmobile to visit Ada twice

The Red Cross blood mobile will be in Ada twice this month. The schedule:

Monday, March 19, 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Ada Visiting Nurses and Hospice, 1200 S. Main.

Thursday, March 29, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at ONU McIntosh Center.

Ada’s Mackenzie Wills gets two wins for ONU

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Senior Lynn Kelly (Mason) and sophomore Mackenzie Wills(Ada) led the Ohio Northern women's tennis team as it wrapped up its spring break trip with a tight 5-4 loss to Coe (Iowa) in Altamonte, Florida.

The Polar Bears fall to 8-3 overall, while the Kohawks improve to 12-8.

Wills went 2-0 to lead Northern, posting a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles and teaming up with sophomore Kaleigh Cummins (Springfield/Northeastern) to win 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.
