Responsible pet workshop at Community Health Professionals

By Monty Siekerman
Forty people and a variety of pets - dogs, a rabbit, a cat - attended a Responsible Pet Workshop on Saturday afternoon at Community Health Professionals.

Melanie Butterfield (kneeling, right, with 14-year-old Ellie) organized the event as part of her Girl Scout gold award. There was a speaker about pet rescue and a veterinarian who talked about how to care for pets.

Melanie, a senior who is homeschooled, also obtained many donations which were handed out as door prizes to those who attended. She is a member of Alger Troop 20301. Melanie is the daughter of Randy and Angie Butterfield.

For bereaved children ages 6 to 12

Bridge Bereavement Service’s Group S.T.A.R. (Special Times Always Remembered) will be offering a Holiday Memories program for bereaved children ages 6 through 12.

The program allows children to come together with their peers and participate in activities that will help them express their feelings, create lasting memories of their loved one and have fun at the same time.

The Holiday Memories program will be offered Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Hospital, 1900 S. Main St. in Findlay.
Dinner will be provided for the children. Family members are encouraged to return at 7:15 p.m. to participate in a closing ceremony.

PLRBARE - You'll expect a plate like this to show up sooner or later. The Icon spotted this on a Ford Explorer Sport in the city building parking lot.

Ada jumped out to an early 20-0 lead last Friday night and never looked back, defeating the visiting Bluffton Pirates 42-17.  Senior quarterback Seth Conley lit up the night sky, tossing for 450 yards and five touchdowns in the Northwest Conference victory.  The win moves the Bulldogs to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the NWC.

The Bulldogs opened the game with a scoring drive, as Conley hit senior Chase Sumner for a 25-yard score, the first of the duo’s three touchdown connections.  Senior Aaron Everhart’s extra point kick was good, putting Ada ahead 7-0 with 8:55 left in the first quarter.

It's the Village Garden

Despite summer like temperatures, five strong and helpful young men from the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity on Ohio Northern's Campus arrived at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, to help winterize the Village Garden.

The garden wasn't quite through producing this year and as the ONU students pulled, cut and upended all the vegetation, they discovered lingering 'fruit on the vine'. "I've never seen a harvest go this long!" said Karen Ward, coordinator of the Garden.

If this continues the winterizing may have to be pushed back to November. The Village Garden is an offshoot project sponsored by The ReStore Center of Ada.
