Nancy M Dilbone, 1953 - 2017

Nancy Marie Dilbone, age 64, died on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 7:10 a.m. at her residence in Harrod, Ohio.

          Nancy was born on June 21, 1953 in Bluffton, Ohio to Harry F. “Fred” and Margaret J. (Wennesheimer) Corbet who preceded her in death.  On August 5, 1973 Nancy married Curtis V. Dilbone and he survives in Harrod.

Nancy Wood Allison appointed to school board

Replaces Tara Griffith who resigned

The Ada Board of Education appointed  Nancy Wood Allison as a new member at its Aug. 17 meeting.

She replaces Tara Griffith, who resigned from the board on July 28. Griffith had served on the board for 8 1/2 years. She was board president at the time of her resignation.

On Aug. 17 Dr. Amy Mullins was elected president and Matt Gossman vice president.

4-H fashion revue Saturday in Ada

6 p.m. at Ada First United Methodist Church

The Sew What 4-H Club and the Hardin County Homemakers invite Icon viewers to the Hardin County  4-H  Fashion Revue taking place this weekend in Ada.

It is from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Ada First United Methodist Church. Hardin County 4-H members will model their clothing and textile construction and consumer projects.

The event is free and open to the public. Free will donations will be accepted by the Sew What 4-H Club to assist with community service projects.

Dianna Cole, 1968 - 2017

Dianna Cole, age 49, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at her residence in Sandusky.

          Dianna was born on May 31, 1968 in Lima, Ohio to Gaylord A. and Frances B. (Nichols) Cole who preceded her in death.

          Surviving are two sisters, Gayle (John) Heston of Sandusky and B.J. Cole of Lima; and a nephew, Christopher Heston of Melbourne, FL.   

          She was preceded in death a sister, Grace Cole.

          Graveside services will begin at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 21, at Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Ready, Set, Grow Preschool year starts Monday

And there's still time to register for 2017-18

Ready, Set, Grow Preschool's 2017-18 school year starts on Monday. And, there's still time to register children for the school year.

The preschool offers a 36-week program. Classes are weekday mornings from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Children can attend two, three, four or five days per week.

Parents working or in college may qualify for a free or reduced tuition.

The preschool is housed in First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St., Ada. Teachers are Cristal Lyle (LSW) and Carrie Gibson. For more information, call the school at 419-634-0000.

Orange and black red carpet

Ohio Northern rolled out the "orange and black" red carpet. In banner form, it flies high above College Avenue as new students move onto campus this weekend.

Inn at ONU holds around the world wine sampling

Tickets for the Sept. 13 event are now available

The Inn at ONU will hold an around the world wine sampling event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13.

The event allows participants to sample wines before purchasing bottles of wine. Ticket-holders may sample five two-ounces of wine with a selection of appetizers. Eight wines will be available at the event.

Each wine is unique to the Inn and is not available at local groceries. Tickets are $30 per person and are inclusive of tax and service fees.

Ada Board of Education

The Ada Board of Education appointed Ms. Nancy Wood Allison as a new member at tonight's meeting. Additionally, Dr. Amy Mullins was elected president and Mr. Matt Gossman vice president.

Bethel Church of Christ holds “URGE” back-to-school event Aug. 26

Bethel Church of Christ, 4014 County Road 304, Ada, will hold a free community-wide student event “URGE,” from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, at the church.

According to event sponsors: “The focus of URGE is to encourage students (junior high through college age) to do well in the upcoming school year, but more importantly, to urge them to be who God wants them to be in their schools.”

It's Welcome Weekend for new ONU students

Activities started Thursday AM and run through Sunday PM

Welcome to Ada! Welcome to ONU!

Ada schools are in session for 2017-18. Ohio Northern University is right behind. Icon viewers have noticed out-of-town cars passing through town packed with college student paraphernalia.

This is a long weekend appropriately called "Welcome Weekend," for all new students. It started this morning at 8 a.m.and runs through Sunday at 11 p.m.

Events range from Spirit Rock signing to an opening convocation, academic meetings, Operation Glow, ACE Day, ending with a movie on the Tundra.
