The crowd was somber. For good reason. The topic was drugs and the devastating effect they are having on our community and nation.
Six dead in Hardin County already this year. Four suspected drug overdose deaths in Allen County in 24 hours this week. More deaths in America from drugs than vehicle crashes last year - 50,000 people went to their graves because of illicit drugs.
Jenna Morrison, however, told a story of hope. She is a recovering addict. Recovering hasn't been easy, it's mighty hard, but with her fortitude and family love and support, she is winning the battle to stay clean.
Here's an overview of the projected $750,000 expansion and renovation

The Ada Public Library will be undergoing an expansion and renovations in 2017. Amanda Bennett, library director, provided the Icon with this overview of the library:
The current building, constructed in 1953, was expanded and renovated in the 1960s and 1990s, as the needs changed and the community outgrew the space.
By beginning this process we take a huge step forward in our ability to continue quality service for our patrons, while expanding on the amount and variety of library programs, as well as community ones, which we will be able to offer.

We understand that opening day for baseball in Cincinnati is an unofficial holiday in that city.
The Icon stringer, Anne Steiner of Cincinnati, did like most people in the Queen City. She took the day off. She also and took photos of the 98th annual opening day parade.
The parade had 189 entries including lots of famous faces! Reds Hall-of-Famer Sean Casey was the parade Grand Marshal.
Cincinnati lost to Philadelphia in the season opener 4-3.
Here are some photos of the parade for Icon viewers.

Ada Kindergarteners learning about the chicken and the egg
Posted by Fred Steiner on Wednesday, April 5, 2017
Ada Kindergarteners in Kim Smittle and Bridgette Jones classes are learning a great chicken and egg story this month.
In a science unit, students are discovering the life cycle of chickens. Twenty-four eggs are in incubation in Mrs. Smittle’s classroom and as of April 5, three chicks hatched.
Mrs. Jones’ classroom also has eggs and they are still “sleeping.” She said, however, that students heard some cheeping coming from some of the eggs. So, it’s any day now.
The chicks will eventually have names. Those names will be selected by students, so stay tuned.
