"The Wedding Singer" musical on Ada school stage this weekend

Cast of 50-plus junior high and high school students

"The Wedding Singer" musical will be performed this weekend at Ada High School auditorium with a cast of 50+ Ada Junior High and High School students.

The humorous, engaging, and entertaining show involves a wedding singer and waitress.The musical revolves around Robbie, who sings at weddings, his failed relationship with his former fiancée, and his romance with a new love, Julia, the waitress.

The romantic comedy is based on the 1998 movie by the same name. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore starred in the movie. The musical played on Broadway in 2006.

ArtSpace/Lima spring show reception April 21

ArtSpace/Lima will host an opening reception for Spring Show 2017 on Friday, April 21, 6:30-8:30 p.m.  The reception is free and open to the public.

Spring Show 2017 is the 62nd edition of ArtSpace’s signature exhibit.  

Entries are accepted from within a 100-mile radius of Lima in the following categories:  painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, digital art and mixed media.  Entries juried in will be displayed in the Ellen Nelson Gallery.  Additional works, not selected in the first round of jurying, but re-juried, will be on display in the Salon des refusés in ArtZone.

Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes 4-H Club met Monday

The Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes 4-H Club met Monday evening, April 17, at the Hardin Northern school with 39 members, 9 advisers, and 3 guests. Recreation for the evening was an Egg Relay led by Makenna Eibling. 

      Megan Miller gave a Treasurer's Report, and Emma Miller led role call. There was a safety demonstration by Kylie Clem on the importance of learning how to ride a bike safely. The club discussed using money for book taxes. Books were handed out by Bob Mcbride. 

Jonathan "Jonny" Lawrence 1980 - 2017

Jonathan “Jonny” Lawrence, age 36, died on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at 3:30 a.m. St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

          He was born on December 15, 1980 in Lima, Ohio to Wilbur L. and Doris (Dye) Lawrence. His father survives in Mount Victory and his mother preceded him in death. On June 4, 2010 Jonny married Samantha Wingate and she survives in Mount Victory.

          Also surviving is a niece, Lyric (Christian) Lawrence of Bellefontaine; two brothers: Jamason (April) Lawrence of Urbana and Jeremiah (Sylvia) Blythe of Michigan; two sisters: Barbara Lawrence of Russell’s Point and Wendy McPeek of Caldwell.

ONU beats Bluffton twice

The Ohio Northern baseball team swept area-rival Bluffton 3-1, 4-3 Monday afternoon in a twinbill at Wander Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 15-14 overall, while the Beavers fall to 11-16.

In the first contest sophomore Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn) and junior Jason Burkett (Maumee) each recorded two hits in the game one victory.

Klinehoffer was a combined 4-for-7 with one RBI and two runs scored on the afternoon.

Bluffton got on the board first in game one in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead, before a 543 double play closed the inning out.

Karol named player of the week

Sophomore Tim Kargl (Downers Grove, Ill./South) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

Kargl earned the honor for the first time in his career.

The sophomore posted a 3-0 record as he competed at the OAC Tennis Fest.

Kargl won 3-0 at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead Ohio Northern to 9-0 sweeps of Ohio Christian, Muskingum and Marietta during the weekend.

Freshman named OAC women's tennis player of the week

Freshman Ola Latala (Grosse Ile, Mich.) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Apr. 9-15.

Latala earned the honor for the first time in her career.

The freshman went 2-1 in singles (2-0 in OAC play) and 2-0 in doubles (2-0 in OAC) as ONU swept Muskingum and Marietta 9-0 at the OAC Tennis Fest and fell 8-1 against #32 Kenyon at the OAC Tennis Fest at the Lindner Tennis Center.

Northern returns to action Wednesday as it hosts Baldwin Wallace at the University Tennis Courts at 3:30 pm.

Molinaro named OAC track athlete of the week, and why not

Junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 9-15.

The junior finished fourth overall in the 800-meter run, and tied his own mark for the fastest time nationally among Div. III athletes at the Mt. Sac Relays.

 Molinaro finished the event in 1:49.30 and was within one second of the first place runner.

The junior competed at the Beach Invitational the next day in the 800-meter run.

He finished third overall in the event in 1:48.92 and ran the fastest time nationally among Div. III athletes.

Richards named OAC track athlete of the week after breaking records

Junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 9-15.

Richards earned the honor for the second time during the outdoor season.

The junior ran the fastest time in Div. III history in the 800-meter run at the Mt. Sac Relays, finishing in 2:02.34.

Richards doubled back to win the 1,500-meter run the following day at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Cal., running the sixth fastest time in Div. III history in the event and winning the event in 4:21.19.

Both times are new school records and are the fastest times nationally.

Leo G Motter 1932 - 2017

Leo G. Motter, age 85, died on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 3:33 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

          He was born on March 19, 1932 in Hancock County, Ohio to James and Velva (Oldham) Motter who preceded him in death.   On July 25 1960 he married A. Jean Spencer and she survives in Dola.
