The Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team saw seven members earn All-Great Lakes Region honors for the 2017 season.
Seniors Kelsey Commager (Maumee), Allie Gast (Grandville, Mich.), Michelle Mosler(Wapakoneta), and Meagan Ellinger (Bath, Ind./Union County), junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) and sophomores Taylor Fisher (Wapakoneta) and Maddy Reed(Lucasville/Piketon) all earned the honor.
Commager earned All-Great Lakes Region in both the long jump and the triple jump.
The senior owns the school record at ONU and will be competing in the event at the NCAA Div. III National Championships on Saturday, Mar. 11 at 10 am CST.

Clermont, Fla. — A 4-run first inning was enough for the Ohio Northern softball team in a 4-2 victory over Concordia (Ill.) on Tuesday morning at The Spring Games tournament at Hancock Park.
Freshman Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry) lifted Northern over Muhlenberg (Pa.) with a walkoff double to seal a 6-5 victory over the Mules
March is Women’s History Month. And, Ohio Northern's Department of Art and Design is highlighting some stories from its alumnae.
Here is Marilyn Lysohir's story. She is a 1972 ONU graduate.
Born in Sharon, Pa., Marilyn has studied at various universities including the Centro Internazionale Di Studi in Verona, Italy (1970-71) and at Washington State University (MFA ’79).
She also has taught at various schools such as the Kansas City Art Institute, the Ohio State University and New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred. In 2000, she was a visiting artist in residence at Ohio Northern’s department of art & design.

Six athletes on the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team have earned All-Great Lakes Region honors for the 2017 season.
Seniors Lucas Shumate(Wapakoneta/Spencerville) and Andrew Harden (Dayton/Vandalia-Butler), juniors Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) and Alec Lunney(Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) and sophomores Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) and Corey Briggs (Lima/Bath) were all named All-Region.
Shumate earned his second consecutive All-Region honor in the weight throw for the Polar Bears.
The senior will be competing at the NCAA Div. III National Championships on Friday, Mar. 10 at 3:30 pm CST.

CLERMONT, Fla. — Junior Kirsten Lightel(Tallmadge) pitched and hit the Ohio Northern softball team to a 6-1 victory over Lebanon Valley (Pa.) at Sleepy Hollow at the Spring Games during its annual Spring Break trip.
The Polar Bears (3-1) ended the day with a 4-1 loss to Wittenberg Monday night.
The Dutchmen fall to 1-2 and the Tigers improve to 2-0

The Ohio Northern University Symphonic Band will present a concert to honor the memory of Catherine “Kitty” Freed, former first lady of Ohio Northern, at 4 p.m. on March 19 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.
The concert will feature motivational and special music designed to reflect Catherine Freed’s positive spirit and uplifting nature.
Her husband, DeBow Freed, served as president of the University from 1979 to 1999, and she was an active member of both the university and local communities, as well as a strong supporter of Ohio Northern and its students during and beyond this time.

Blanchard Pleasant Buckeye 4-H club held their first meeting Monday night at HN School. There were 44 members, 8 advisors and 13 parents present. A scavenger hunt was held at the beginning of the meeting. Team #7 won the event and were awarded suckers.

L. Jane Cockerell, 80, died on Monday, March 6, 2017, at 12:41a.m. at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
She was born on May 26, 1936, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to T.J. and Myrtle (Wright) Holbrook, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 21, 1954, Jane married Elmer “Bud” Cockerell and he died on Aug. 13, 2003.
Jane retired in 1986 after 25 year from Liberty National Bank of Ada where she was a cashier and vice president. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Kenton. She was a former member of the Hix-N-Chix of Maysville.

Sharon is retired from Liberty National Bank after 32 years. She has been actively selling real estate for five years.
Music and her husband Harold live near Ada and have two sons, Todd and Mark, and three grandchildren.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened its 2017 Spring Break trip with a 9-0 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan and an 8-1 loss to Wilkes (Pa.), on Sunday.
The Polar Bears are 9-2 on the season, while the Prairie Wolves fall to 2-11 and the defending MAC Freedom Conference champion Colonels improve to 7-0.
In the NWU contest, Ada's Mackenzie Wills won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and 8-0 at No. 3 in doubles
