The verdit is in: Here's the Fest' of Trees cookie contest winners

Winners include: date pinwheel, oatmeal raisin, brown sugar pecan and chocolate chip

Winners of the Festival of Trees cookie baking contest at Community Health Professionals were determined Monday evening by a panel of judges.

It was rumored that each judge was chosen because he had a sweet tooth.

Raabe College of Pharmacy holds Professional Commitment Ceremony

Where students take an oath of professional commitment

The Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy recently conducted its annual Professional Commitment Ceremony in the ONU Sports Center.

Dr. Chet Kaczor, Ohio Pharmacists Association president elect and director of pharmacy services at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, was the keynote speaker at the event. He spoke on “Passion, Purpose and Positivity: Your Prerogative.” Kaczor earned his doctor of pharmacy from ONU’s College of Pharmacy in 2006.

The event marks the transition from the students’ first three years of ONU pharmacy education to their final three professional years in the direct-entry program.

Festival of Trees opening is a big hit

Santa drew a large crowd to the opening of the Festival of Trees on Sunday afternoon at Community Health Professionals.

In addition to youngsters telling Santa their wishes, the afternoon event included:
• kids buying gifts for family and friends for $1 and learning how to wrap them, even making their own Christmas cards.
• the beginning of a week-long silent auction.
• a $5 grab and go table of holiday decorations.
* free food, an extensive array of main dishes and desserts.

Santa among runners in Reindeer Run

60-degree weather event supports stuffed polar bears for children at Lima Memorial

These brave reindeer begin the 5K and 1 mile Reindeer Run on campus Sunday afternoon.

Forty-eight "reindeer" chose the 5K, which is a tad more than 3 miles, while just 2 "reindeer" trekked the 1 mile distance. Even Santa ( a.k.a. Jeff Allison) joined in...can you find him?

The run was held outdoors in sunny, 60 degree weather to support the giving of stuffed polar bears to the children at Lima Memorial Hospital.  Mortar Board honorary and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority sponsored the event.

Ada scouts for food!

Tom Lehman (left) and Dave Savino were among many who helped organize food brought to the Ada Food Pantry. The Pantry now has much more to offer to those who need help with food expenses.

Javon Keith, 2, wanted to be a big helper--and was--when Scouts brought non perishable food to the Ada Food Pantry on Saturday morning.

Parent-teacher conferences Nov. 21-22

Parent-teacher conferences for all grades are next Monday, Nov. 21, from 4:00-8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.  If you need to schedule a conference please call the office or contact your student's teacher.

There will be no school for students Nov. 22-25.

Polar Bears end football season at 5-5

Baldwin Wallace scored 21 points in the final 16 minutes to rally for a 31-21 football victory over Ohio Northern in the season finale on Saturday afternoon at Finnie Stadium.

The Polar Bears end their season at 5-5 overall and 5-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow Jackets end up at 3-7, 2-7.

Despite the loss, ONU clinched its 20th upper division finish in the OAC in the last 21 seasons, tying for fourth place in the 10-team league.

ONU men's cross country team on the way to nationals

No. 18-ranked Ohio Northern received an at-large bid to compete in the NCAA III Men's Cross Country Championships meet on Saturday in Louisville, Ky.

The Polar Bears (96-7 overall) received a bid after finishing third at the NCAA III Great Lakes Regional Championships on Nov. 12.

The top two teams in each of the eight NCAA Regional Championships receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championships. The remaining 16 teams were selected by a NCAA committee on Sunday.

This will be the fourth appearance for Ohio Northern at the championships and first since 2008.

ONU finished 11th in 2008, 17th in 2007 and 32nd in 2006.

The Icon spotted this plate in a parking lot near the Bluffton University volleyball court. It's on a red Dodge pick up and we're pretty certain it belongs to Bluffton's volleyball coach, Steve Yarnell.
