Okay, it's Bluffton, but...where is it?

FROM THE BLUFFTON ICON - If there's such thing as a parallel universe, this photo is proof.

Last week the Icon owners spent a couple hours in Bluffton, South Carolina, while on a vacation in the south.

"We tried to be normal tourists, but when we came upon a Bluffton police cruiser and two officers, we let our secret out," said Fred Steiner. "This photo was too good to pass up."

As you might expect, with a Bluffton, Ohio, a Bluffton, Indiana, and a Bluffton, South Carolina, sometimes things get confusing.

Lincoln Highway Buy Way yard sale - it's heaven for buyers and sellers

It’s a heavenly weekend for garage sale buyers and sellers.

It’s Main Street Across America’s Lincoln Highway Buy Way Yard Sale Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 11-12-13, and Ada is getting ready for a flood of buyers.

The annual event in Ada is sponsored by the Ada Community Improvement Corp. (CIC), which is a member of the Lincoln Highway Association.

A map of Ada garage sales will be posted soon on the Icon. The map will list sales in the village and in the surrounding countryside.

Meet the Ada Gators swim team

Here's a photo of this summer's Ada swim team. The team finished third place in the Western Ohio Aquatic League championships at the Bluffton pool in July.

The 80-member team was lead by swimmer/coaches Katey and Kyley Stuart and head coach Logan Rex. (Carl Wilkerson photo)

Hardin County ag fields in need of rain

By Mark Badertscher, Extension Agent
The story of the week is that Hardin County is still in need of rain.

If you look at the latest U.S. Drought Monitor website at http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/Home/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?OH, you will see that most of the county is now considered in ‘Moderate Drought’ as of Aug. 2.

Checking crops around the county, more and more corn fields are showing stress during this critical time of kernel development.  Although the northern part of the county seems drier, parts of southern Hardin County are very dry as well.

Monty Siekerman: Some thoughts on Agnes Crates

By Monty Siekerman
You never had to tell Agnes Crates to smile for the camera because she was always smiling.

- WATCH THE VIDEO WHEN SHE ACCEPTED THE DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD IN 2013.

Agnes was a regular at ReStore Community Center where she was greeted by hugs and kisses by many meal-goers. And, she returned the love that was shown to her.
