If you’r hear drum cadences, the Ada school fight song, or the music from Toy Story, it’ is the Ada High School Marching Band and Color Guard preparing for the 2016 fall football and competition season. 

Ada Band and Color Guard members are deep into marching band camp at the school. The camp started July 18 and continues until Friday, July 29.

A special preview performance will be held at the conclusion of camp at 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, in the Auxiliary gym. 

The Alger Memorial Festival Committee will hold a country-style breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m., Saturday,  Aug. 6, at the Alger Social Center, 210 N. Main St., Alger.

The menu includes biscuits, sausage gravy, hash browns, scrambled eggs, fried apples, sausage patties and a beverage.

A suggested donation is $7. The breakfast is all-you-can-eat (premises only). Carry out is available. Call 419-679-8460 for free local delivery.

Judge Randall Basinger, Putnam County Common Pleas Judge, running for the 17-county 3rd District Court of Appeals, is the featured speaker for the Hardin County Democrat’s annual Kick-Off dinner.

The dinner is Saturday, July 30, at 6 p.m. at the Goshen Grange Hall, 18977 County Road 120, corner of Hardin County Road 120 and Township Road 205 east of Kenton.

Judge Basinger has also served as an appellate judge assigned by the Supreme Court on the 11th and 8th District Courts of Appeals on approximately 200 cases.

Ada High School varsity fall sports schedules are listed on the Icon's sport calendar. The Icon has posted August and September contest for football, volleyball, girls' soccer, boys' soccer, boys' golf, cross country and girls' tennis on the calendar.

October and November games will be posted soon.

Apollo Career Center board of education will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 15, at Apollo.

One of the items on the agenda is to accept a bid from Cardinal Bus for a 72-passenger school bus at $75,178.

Following the preseason test, the league's Competition Committee will review the results to determine how the balls performed along with the potential uses of the data collected, Signora said.

Ada will be the Ohio capital for pole vaulting, and for that matter, the Midwest, on Saturday as Vault on The Tundra comes to ONU.

For athletes who pole vault, the event offers competition for high school girls, boys and collegiate women and men and an open class. This is the second year for Vault on The Tundra.

Here's the schedule:
10:30 a.m. - High school girls
Noon - High school boys
1:30 p.m. - Collegiate/open women
3 p.m. - Collegiate/open men

Competition takes place at Quad South of King Horn. In the event of rain the competition goes indoors.

The event is free and open to the public.

Alger Assembly of God will hold Vacation Bible School from Monday, July 25, to Friday, July 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the church. It is open to youth ages 4 through fifth grade.

This year's VBS theme is Cave Quest: Following Jesus The Light of the World.

A Family Fun Day takes place Sunday, July 31, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event includes music, inflaatables and free food.
