A massive first half and a strong debut from Freshman quarterback Seth Conley propelled the Bulldogs to a week 1 victory as they defeated the visiting Upper Scioto Valley Rams, 49-14. In just his first varsity start, Conley showed no signs of jitters, tossing for 315 yards and 4 scores.
There’s a change in the crosswalk on Gilbert Street, between the 400 and 500 block, which affects walkers and vehicles and has grabbed the attention of persons using that crosswalk.
The Icon understands that the stop signs that were previously at the crosswalk may not have been in compliance with Ohio Uniform Traffic Control Manual.
Parents and students of Ada schools are now aware of the new building security in place.
According to school officials in the Ada Elementary Back to School Newsletter:
“In an effort to keep improving security for the safety of our students, Ada Schools applied for and received a grant to fund the improvement of the main entrance to our building.
“Improvements for the 2014-15 school year include new doors to the elementary and high school offices and also an electronic entry system with an intercom.
“Once school begins at 8:35 a.m. each morning the doors from the vestibule to the high school and elementary offices will be locked.
Ohio Northern University students are back on campus and Ada Friends, a mentoring program between ONU students and students in Ada schools, is organizing for 2014-15.
“Applications are now available for both Bigs (ONU mentors) and Littles (Ada students) and are due Saturday, Sept. 13,” Austin Hilverding, ONU student and Ada Friends Coordinator said.
Ada Friends, organized in 1991 through the Ohio Northern University Religious Life staff, last school year matched over 75 Ada students with college mentors
The ONU Religious Life Staff is under the direction of David MacDonald, ONU chaplain.
Did you know that your Ada school youth can get breakfast at the Ada cafeteria?
Breakfast is served from the first bus arrival until 8:35 a.m. The cost is $1.25 for kindergarten through 12th grade and the reduce breakfast is 30 cents.
The breakfasts offer USDA breakfast requirements of two grains, one cup of fruit or juice and milk.
The school cafeteria offers a variety of breakfast items daily along with the menu attached at the bottom of this story. The menu is subject to change due to the availablility of food items.

Schools tabbed as a “Tuition Hero” earn this honor if the institution has a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.5 percent or less, and if the school has a fixed rate tuition policy.
Ohio Northern has traditionally been committed to making it affordable for students to attend the University while providing a quality education and a CAGR of 2.5 percent. In 2014-15, ONU instituted The Ohio Northern Promise to continue meet the challenges associated with the rising costs of higher education.
