June full of special evenings at The Inn at ONU

Several special evening events at planned in June at The Inn at ONU, Ada. Here's the schedule:

* Every Friday night from 5 - 7:30 p.m. enjoy live jazz at The Inn's Just JazzInn!  Appetizer buffet begins at 5 p.m. with live music starting at 5:30 p.m. Reservations not required for Just JazzInn but are accepted.

*  June 12 - Food & Wine Pairing. 6:30 p.m.  Delicious courses paired perfectly with fine wines. Enjoy live music as well. It's a unique evening out with friends and family. Please call 419.772.2500.  $45.00 per person (plus tax/gratuity).

June 1 sign-up deadline to participate in Children's Day at Friendship Gardens

Children have the opportunity to ‘Experience O-H-I-O’ at the Children’s Day at the Friendship Gardens sponsored by the Hardin County OSU Extension Master Gardeners. 

This educational activity is planned for children ages Kindergarten – 5th grade and will take place Saturday, June 14, at the Friendship Gardens of Hardin County.  The program will start at 10 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m.  The gardens are located behind the Harco Industries building at 960 Kohler Street in Kenton.

Active Parenting Now in 3 offers summer series at Hardin Northern

OSU Extension, Hardin Northern Library, Hardin Northern Community Center, and the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund are offering parents of school aged children an opportunity to intentionally explore how to be the greatest influence on their kids. 

They will be offering a series of six hourly sessions of Active Parenting Now in 3 on during the Summer Reading weekly programs at the Hardin Northern Library.

Music Boosters elect officers June 10

The next Ada Music Booster meeting will be Tuesday, June 10, at 6 p.m. in the 4-H shelter house at the Ada Park.

There will be a potluck dinner and members will nominate/elect Booster officers for the next year.

"We encourage parents of Ada music students to consider involvement with the Music Boosters. It's a great way to stay active in your child's activities - especially if they have a passion for music or the arts. You get to meet some great people and witness some awesome talent, too! Even if you are not interested in running for office, we welcome you to help in choosing next year's officers," said Stacy Geedey of the Boosters.

 

Hardin Amateur Radio Club meets June 4

The Hardin County Amateur Radio Club will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday June 4, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Hardin County Fairgrounds’ fire station. Anyone interested in amateur radio are invited to attend.

Ada McDonald's offers $1 Big Mac sandwiches during its Customer Appreciation Week

Ada McDonald’s is celebrating its guests with a Customer Appreciation Week, Monday, May 26, through Friday, May 30. The restaurant will feature a prize wheel on Monday and will offer $1 Big Mac sandwiches, Tuesday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We want to celebrate our guests and create a great experience for them,” said Jessica Hall, local McDonald’s owner. “Our customer appreciation week is one way we accomplish that.”

The promotion is valid at the Ada McDonald’s only.

Michael Harnishfeger, Ada police chief, provided the Icon with the Ada police call logs from May 12 to 18.

Season pool passes are now on sale at the water office. Ada residents/taxpayers can get passes for $30 per person through June 2. After June 2, the cost is $40 per person.

University announces the formation of the Center for Democratic Governance and Rule of Law

Ohio Northern University has announced the formation of the Center for Democratic Governance and Rule of Law, which will focus on international development in the rule of law sector.

The newly formed institution will not only promote dialogue and scholarship in this vital field, but also participate directly in on-the-ground rule of law promotion efforts in developing post-conflict and post-communist nations.

ONU's Josh Colbert wins DIII national long jump title

Ohio Northern University senior Josh Colbert won the national championship in the long jump at the NCAA III Championships on Thursday at Selby Stadium on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan.

On the final leap of his college career, Colbert covered 7.46 meters (24-5.75), to clinch the national title.

His leap also broke the school record of 24-1.00, set back in 1981.

"This was my goal all along," said Colbert. "At the beginning of the season, it may have seemed unrealistic, but I gave it my all and am honored to be a national champion."

On his first jump in the finals, Colbert posted a leap of 7.37 meters, to put him in sole possession of first place.
