Public auction Oct. 26 of Orange Township parcels

Farthing Real Estate and Auctioneers, Findlay, announce the sale of four parcels at public auction at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, on the premises at 3576 and 3598 State Route 103, Bluffton.

The property includes 58 acres of farm ground and woods, two homes and buildings, farm equipment and personal property.

The owners are james and Imogene Benroth and Judith Houdeshell.

When you could fill up the tank for 30 cents a gallon

Judging from the three vehicles at the pumps, we'd say this photo is from 1959. These look like a 1958 Corvair convertible, a 1958 Oldsmobile and a 1959 Mercury.

We can't read the price of gas on the pump, but it was probably 30 cents a gallon. This classic Ada "filling station" photo is part of Ada Public Library collection.

Fine Touch Furniture & Upholstery - where they bring furniture back to life

The Garver brothers have upholstered nearly every thing imaginable since opening Fine Touch Furniture and Upholstery. 

The 513 N. Johnson St., Ada, business, opened in 1986 after brothers Randy and Dan Garver left Findlay Furniture, where they learned the upholstery trade.

Even so, the brothers claim: “We’ve never worked a day in our lives,” as they take their business seriously, but truly enjoy what they do. “And, we meet a lot of interesting people,” they add.

Veterans' breakfast Nov. 11 at Ada school cafeteria

The Ada School District is sponsoring a Veterans’ Day breakfast on Monday, Nov. 11, at 8 a.m. in the school cafeteria. 

All veterans and their families as well as active duty service personnel who live, work or
worship within the boundaries of the Ada Exempted Village Schools are invited to attend.

If you would like to attend the veterans’ breakfast, please call the Ada High School Office at

The speaker for the morning will be Don VanRenterghem, who will make a special presentation representing the The Korean War Veterans Association.

Auditions sought for Ohio Has Talent!

Community Health Professionals is seeking auditions for personal and group acts from throughout Ohio for the seventh annual Ohio Has Talent!

Auditions will be held Nov. 8 and 9 at Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert to select the 20 acts to take part in the show on Feb. 8, 2014, at Niswonger Performing Arts Center.

Contestants will compete for $1,000 first place, $500 second place, $250 third place prizes based on audience votes. Proceeds from the show benefit CHP’s Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

Angela "Bun" Dick 1943-2013

Angela "Bun" Dick, 70, died on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 12:30 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1943, in Findlay, Ohio, to Gerald W. and Mildred "Millie" (Cline) Dick and they preceded her in death. Bun resided with her loving companion of 37 years, Donna Buck and she survives in Ada.

She retired from United Telephone Company (Sprint) after 30 years. She then retired from BP Chemical as a sergeant in security after 13 years. She was a member of the United Telephone Company Pioneers. She was a graduate of Elmwood High School in Cygnet and attended BGSU for two years.

Women's soccer: Polar Bears win 3-0 over Baldwin Wallace

The Ohio Northern women's soccer team scored three second half goals to defeat Baldwin Wallace by a 3-0 score in the first match at Kerscher Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears are now 5-6-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in OAC action, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 11-2-0, 2-1-0.

The first half was scoreless, with ONU owning a 7-2 advantage in shots.

ONU had a chance late in the first, when freshman Shelby Stephens fired a shot that was stopped by the Yellow Jacket goalie.

The ball kicked out and freshman Rachel Weigman fired a shot that sailed wide.

Women's golf: Wraps up fall schedule Wittenberg Pat Clouse Invitational

The Ohio Northern women's golf team wrapped up its Fall schedule with a 12th place finish at the Wittenberg Pat Clouse Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Springfield Country Club.

The Polar Bears (14-24 overall) finished with 739 strokes.

Junior Megan Conley  led the Polar Bears with a 91-81—172 to finish 26th out of 79 golfers on the par-72, 5800-yard course.

Freshman Ariana Tomasula  tied for 45th with a 96-87—183, freshman Hannah Whisler  tied for 55th with a 96-94—190 and junior Allison Fye  tied for 60th with a 98-96—194.
