Jordan Paige Richardson, 22, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at 7:25 a.m. due to an auto accident

She was born on April 26, 1991, in Lima, Ohio, to Kary P. and Mandy C. (Myers) Richardson, and they survive in Harrod.

Richardson worked as a dental assistant at Jeffrey Blanford, DDS, Lima. She was a 2009 graduate of Allen East High School. She was a member of the Lima First Assembly of God Church.

Want to hear a good Halloween story? Here’s one. And it’s true.

Most of us have forgotten that the bend in the road on State Route 235 north of Ada was originally laid out as a 90-degree angle. If you head north, you can see a remnant of that angle - but look closely.

Most of us have also forgotten that the 90-degree angle once had a name: Dead Man’s Jog. I know how the name came to be. My grandfather told me. He told me the story over a half century ago. It was a story that took place, well, I’ll put it this way - several generations ago.

Built in Lima - NKP 759

Here's Nickel Plate Road Berkshire 759 pulling out of the former Lima Locomotive Works in the spring of 1969. Although NKP 759 never passed through Ada, similar steam locomotives were familiar passing through Ada on a daily basis during the era of steam.

The locomotive, built in Lima in 1949, was pulling the Golden Spike Limited. The train was headed to Utah where the centennial of the Golden Spike was to take place. The train headed south and passed through Bluffton.

Hardin County Gospel Music Assn. dinner/auction Nov. 16 at ReStore

The newly formed Hardin County Gospel Music Association will hold a dinner/auction at 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov 16, at Restore Community Center, Ada.

Dinner is $8 per person and there are pre-sale tickets only. Menu is salad spaghetti with meat sauce, bread sticks and drink.

Soybean research conducted in Hardin County

Five Hardin County soybean fields were part of a statewide OSU Extension Soybean Yield-Limiting Factor Study to determine how to increase production, profits, and quality for local farmers. 

Cooperating Hardin County farmers participating in this study were Craig Geberin, Ted Griffith, Jan Layman, Paul Ralston, and Mark Watkins.  The study was made possible in part by a grant from the Ohio Soybean Council.

Ada schools part of 12-district effort seeking laptops for students

In hopes of garnering state Straight A grant funds for this region, 12 area school districts have joined forces to submit a proposal for an innovative project that would put laptop computers and other devices into students’ hands and establish a way for teachers in all the schools to share ideas and experiences.

The new Straight A Fund is part of Ohio’s $62 billion, two-year state operating budget. The $250 million grant program aims to reward creative ideas that boost student achievement, reduce spending or put an impressive share of resources into classrooms.

Pettit College of Law announces ‘The ONU Law Promise’ to make an excellent legal education more affordable

Ohio Northern University has announced a reduction of tuition for the Pettit College of Law starting with the 2014-15 academic school year. Called The ONU Law Promise, this new initiative is intended to make an ONU legal education more affordable, to reduce student loan debt, to sustain academic quality, and to prepare students for long-term success in their legal careers.

How about one last look at this year's Ada Kiwanis Club Halloween parade. Here's a video that the Icon posted today. It's a walk-through of the Halloween contest judging area. Are you in this video?

Who is the scariest, most original, cutiest...you know...Halloweener in Ada this week? Well, according to the Ada Kiwanis Club, here's the results from juding from Monday night's Kiwanis Halloween parade.

The club said that 110 children and two adults participated in this year's contest.

Ada band travels the Buckeye State - two competitions in one day

The Ada High School Marching Band traveled to central Ohio to compete in two separate competitions on Saturday. 

The band departed Ada early Saturday morning and traveled to Carroll to compete in the Bloom-Carroll High School BC Classic. Despite cold, windy conditions, the band placed third and received an overall rating of Excellent. In addition, the Color Guard and Percussion earned top honors in Class C.

Following the awards ceremonies at Bloom-Carroll, the band loaded their instruments and equipment and traveled to Dresden to compete in the Tri-Valley Band Classic, hosted by Tr-Valley High School.
