Ada Knit 'n Crochet Club hosted by Ada Public Library

The Ada Public Library is hosting a knitting and crochet club. The Ada Knit 'n Crochet Club is open to anyone both learning how to knit or already an expert.  It will provide a regular space for yarn crafters work on their knit or crochet projects together with others.

The next meeting of the club will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ada Public Library.  Light snacks will be provided. All are welcome.

Regular Wednesday meetings are scheduled thereafter at the same time for June 5, June 19, July 3, July 17, July 31, and August 14.  Check the Icon calendar for reminders.

Football squad travelling to Dublin, Ireland, for May 15 exhibition game

The Ohio Northern football team will travel to Ireland on May 13-21 and will play an exhibition game against a pair of NFL-Ireland club teams.

The Polar Bears will face a combined team made up of club teams from the University College Dublin and the Meath Bulldogs on May 15 in  Dublin, Ireland.

ONU expects the two club teams, that participate in NFL-Ireland league, will alternate and play as units in the game.

Led by ninth-year head coach Dean Paul, the Polar Bears will also travel to Galway and Killarney before returning home on May 21.

ONU’s College of Law to hold commencement

Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law will celebrate its 2013 commencement ceremony in the ONU Sports Center on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. Approximately 100 students will be awarded degrees, and Dr. Daniel DiBiasio, Ohio Northern University president, will preside.

The ONU Sports Center is scheduled to open for the commencement exercises at 12:30 p.m. A musical prelude will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by the procession of faculty and juris doctorate candidates.

7th annual “Buggy Ride” bike tour on May 18

 

Hardin Leadership II is offering different routes this year for their 7th annual Buggy Ride — a bicycle tour in the Amish countryside of Hardin County.

The routes begin and end at McCullough Industries on County Road 175 in Kenton.  They are designed to provide families and individuals with a low traffic ride in the country. Bike routes begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, for the distance riders —those traveling 60 miles throughout the Hardin County.

Those planning to travel 30 miles, 15 miles or the 6-mile family ride will begin at 8:30 a.m. Registration continues until 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Lynette Darlington DePaoli was a 1969 Ada High School graduate

Lynette Darlington DePaoli, 62, formerly of Ada, died at 9:15 p.m., May 2, 2013, in Verona, Italy.

She was born Nov. 12, 1950, in Plattsburg, N.Y., the daughter of Dr. Oscar G. and Miriam W. Darlington. They preceded her in death.

She was a 1969 Ada High School graduate and had been an art major at Ohio Northern University where he father was Dean of Liberal Arts. She married Paolo DePaoli on Aug. 25, 1974. The couple made their home in Verona, Italty.

Not much has changed in Ada in 100 years. It's a familiar Ada scene - the railroad depot and the canon in the park. Of course, the dress of the young men, with their derbies, dates the photo.

Blanchard Valley Regional Cancer Center has new cancer treatment system

The Blanchard Valley Regional Cancer Center (BVRCC) has added new equipment to aide in the fight against cancer. The new cancer treatment system, called TrueBeam™, offers advanced radiation therapy for some of the most complex cancers.

The TrueBeam system is designed to deliver more powerful cancer treatments with accuracy and precision. In addition, the system integrates new imaging technologies to complete treatments more quickly while monitoring the motion of tumors.

Ethel Amburgey owned and operated Ada Motel until her retirement

Ethel G. (Sizemore) Amburgey, age 93, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 5:35 p.m. at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

She was born on October 24, 1919 in Bull Creek, KY. to John and Hettie (Gray) Sizemore, who preceded her in death. On December 27, 1941 she married Irvin N. Amburgey, who preceded her in death on November 18, 1993.

Ethel was a homemaker. She owned and operated the Ada Motel until her retirement. She worked many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Lackey Hospital in Lackey, KY and also worked at the Ada Nursing Home for over 15 years.

Corsie Bailey, 1923 - 2013

Corsie Bailey, age 89, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 7:40 am at at her sons residence in Ridgeway, Ohio.

She was born on May 28, 1923 in Salyersville, Kentucky to George and Susan (Bailey) Prater who preceded her in death. She first married John Bailey on December 7, 1942 and he died on October 6, 1979. She later married Donald F. Gossard and they divorced after 22 years.

Corsie was a homemaker. She was a member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger.
