In an effort to rid village sidewalks and other public sites of dog excrement, the Village of Ada is considering the hiring of Canine DNA On The Spot. The company, based in Cleveland, offers communities and park services with DNA animal excrement testing services.
According to the company website: “We assist municipalities and park services in matching animal excrement found on streets, alleys, sidewalks, parks and lawns, with the actual animal that deposited the excrement.”
Three members of the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy, along with a member of the Purdue University faculty, have collaborated to author a textbook titled “Pharmacogenetics, Kinetics, and Dynamics for Personalized Medicine.”
Ohio Northern’s David F. Kisor, professor of pharmacokinetics, Jon E. Sprague, dean and professor of pharmacology, Jeffrey N. Talbot, associate professor of pharmacology, and Michael D. Kane, associate professor of bioinformatics and genomics at Purdue, contributed to the textbook, which will be used by pharmacy students and pharmacists.
Amanda Bennett, Ada Public Library director, announced this week that the Ada Public Library has been chosen to be a World Book Night participant.
World Book Night U.S. is a celebration of books and reading held on April 23, when 25,000 passionate volunteers across America give a total of half a million books within their communities to those who don’t regularly read.
In 2012, World Book Night was celebrated in the U.S., the UK, Ireland, and Germany and saw over 80,000 people gift more than 2.5 million books.

Ohio Northern's sports teams are in 24th place through the winter sports in the 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports — nine women's and nine men's.
The Polar Bears are in 24th place out of 446 NCAA Division III schools with 317.50 points.
Northern has scored team points in men's soccer, men's swimming & diving and wrestling, women's soccer, women's basketball and volleyball.
Junior Mark Berton has been named OAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
At the Washington & Lee (Va.) Carnival on Saturday, Berton won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:23.44, beating the second place runner by .24 seconds.
His steeplechase time is currently the fastest in the country.
Ohio Northern will compete next at OAC Split Meet at Muskingum on Friday.
President Myrna McCurdy called the Tuesday March 26th meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at noon at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, Ada.
