Smoke free toolkits available through the Allen County Health Department

The Creating Healthy Communities project of the Allen County Health Department has a new project initiative for smoke-free housing. 

The Allen County Smoke-Free Housing Project is geared towards tenants and landlords who want to make their housing units smoke free, whether it’s a single dwelling, duplex, six-building condominium complex, or multiple apartment complex. 

Seven Polar Bears named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in football for 2012

Seven Ohio Northern student/athletes were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in football for 2012 in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

Seniors Tyler Joseph, Cody Kelly, Carter Paul and Justin Wilson and sophomore Steven Kenny were named Second Team All-OAC, while senior Kyle Smith and junior Sean Denson were named Honorable Mention All-Conference.

Joseph is now a two-time All-Conference honoree at right guard, earning Second Team honors in each of the past two seasons. He has started the last 32 games in the past three years and is also an Academic All-OAC honoree.

ONU students honored by Financial Executives International Toledo Chapter

Two students from Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments at the Financial Executives International (FEI) Toledo Chapter Students Awards Night in Perrysburg, Ohio, on Nov. 8.

Robert Roll, a senior accounting and finance major from Gahanna, Ohio, and Austin Price, a Master of Professional Practice in Accounting candidate from Tiffin, Ohio, were among 14 students honored at the event. The two ONU students were presented a $400 award check from Michael Harding on behalf of the FEI Toledo Chapter.

ONU’s chapter of Tau Beta Pi inducts Kenny

Robert Kenny, vice president and general manager with General Cable, was inducted into the Ohio Iota chapter of Tau Beta Pi at Ohio Northern University as an eminent engineer during a ceremony held Nov. 4.

Kenny graduated from Ohio Northern with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1988. Eighteen ONU undergraduates also were initiated into the Ohio Iota chapter, which was founded in 1973.
 
 Kenny has been vice president and general manager of data communications cables for General Cable since June 2007. In October 2009, he assumed the additional responsibility for leadership of the company’s Telecommunications Team.

Parent-teacher conference time for Ada students

It's parent-teacher conference time for Ada schools.

Conferences for students in grades K-12 start on on Monday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you've not yet set up an appointment call the high school office today.

Students will attend school on Monday, Nov 19. There will not be school on Nov. 20 and 21. Thanksgiving break is Nov. 22 and 23.

ONU men's soccer team headed for NCAA III Final Four

Senior Cameron Johnson scored in the 82nd minute to give the No. 5 Ohio Northern men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over No. 6 Montclair State (N.J.), Sunday evening in the NCAA III Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Polar Bears are now 24-2-0 on the season, while the Redhawks conclude their season at 19-3-1.

This will be the first trip in school history to the Final Four for the Polar Bears.

Northern will now face Williams (Mass.) at 1:30 pm CST in the NCAA III Tournament Semifinals at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas on November 30.

Pennington, Horstman lead men's basketball past Penn State-Beaver 78-60 for W&J Classic title

Sophomore Lucas Pennington scored 21 points and junior Jared Horstman added 15 points to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team to a 78-60 victory over Penn State-Beaver in the championship game of the Washington & Jefferson Classic on Sunday at the Henry Memorial Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 2-0, while the Nittany Lions fall to 1-1.

Pennington was named the Tournament MVP and Horstman was named to the All-Tournament Team for their efforts.

Sophomore Isaiah Roux added 14 points for Ohio Northern.

Penn State-Beaver was led by Nick Miller with 14 points, Robert Agurs with 13 points and Lamont Wright with 10 points.

No. 5 men's soccer advances to NCAA III tournament quarterfinals

Senior Nate Bascom became Ohio Northern's all-time single season assist leader as the No. 5 Ohio Northern men's soccer team topped No. 10 Susquehanna by a 4-1 score Saturday evening in the NCAA III Tournament Third Round.

The Polar Bears improve to 23-2 on the season, while the Crusaders finish their season at 18-3-1.

Northern advances to the NCAA III Tournament Quarterfinals for the second time in school history and will face either No. 4 Trinity (Tx.) or No. 6 Montcliar State (N.J.) at 5 pm CST on Sunday.

No. 10 wrestling opens season with 3-1 record at Olivet (Mich.) duals

The No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team opened its 2012-13 season with a 3-1 record at the Olivet Duals on Saturday at the Cutler Events Center.

The Polar Bears defeated No. 12-ranked Olivet (Mich.) 26-15, Alma (Mich.) 20-15 and Trine (Ind.) 25-12 after opening the day with a 39-3 loss to No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Senior three-time All-American, defending NCAA Champion and No. 1-ranked Kyle Kwiat led ONU with a perfect 4-0 record, going 2-0 at 184 pounds and 2-0 at 174 pounds.

Junior Michael Pawlitz posted a 3-0 record at 197 pounds, sophomore Cody Lovejoy went 2-0 at heavyweight and freshman Max Brooke went 2-0 at 157 pounds for ONU.
