Who We Are & Our Partners
The Village of Ada is gearing up for an extensive project! We will be in the process of changing all our existing meters to AMI Smart Meters by Neptune. The Village is working in partnership with Neptune Equipment Company (NECO) installers to successfully implement the water meter replacement project.

Beginning in December and continuing over the next six months, our aging water meters will be replaced with updated technology. The people at NECO are nationally recognized, experienced professionals who are helping streamline the project, while supporting one of our primary values - customer service.

The Plan
NECO will be notifying customers with inside meters when crews will be in their neighborhood. Information on how to schedule an appointment & what to expect during the meter replacement process will be provided by NECO.

For outside, accessible water meters, an appointment is not necessary, but you will be notified by door hanger once the work has been completed.

A Little Bit About the Project
You should start seeing NECO personnel working in your neighborhoods at the beginning of December 2024. The entire project will take approximately six (6) months to complete, ending around June 1, 2025. Work will be performed during regular business hours.

Installers will knock on the door to let the customer know they are on site to change the meter. If there is no answer at the door, they will proceed to change the meter.

During installation, the NECO installer will remove the existing meter and replace it with the AMI Smart Meter. Typically, the installation will take less than one hour. There will be an interruption in water service during this time.

Property owners with tenants should notify them of the upcoming installation and the brief interruption of the water service.

Water Meter Frequently Asked Questions
What are smart meters? Water meters that measure and communicate water usage to the Village of Ada without requiring a manual read. Currently, meters are read manually by physically visiting the meter location each month. The process is labor intensive and can be adversely affected by bad weather or access to meters in difficult to read locations.

Will this cost me anything? No. The Village of Ada is replacing the current water meters at no charge to the resident.

Can I opt out? This meter replacement project is mandatory and is necessary for the fair and accurate billing of utility services. All water meters must be replaced with the AMI Smart Meters.

Who will install the AMI Smart Meters? NECO has been contracted by the Village of Ada to handle the installation of the new meters. NECO installers will be identifiable by high visibility vest, sweatshirt, or coat, depending on weather conditions, will have IDs with name, company name and photo and be driving a vehicle with the NECO sticker on the window.

Points to Consider
If the meter is located in your yard or behind a gate, access to the meter will be needed. For the safety of the installers, please make sure all pets are secure.

If your service was “OFF” at the meter before installation, your service will be left “OFF” after installation. If your service was “ON” at the meter prior to installation, your service will be restored after the meter is installed.

Once installed, it may be several weeks before your smart meter is fully activated, but your usage will still be measured and read visually by our Public Works Department for billing as usual. The delay allows us to ensure that the system is fully functional, and the new meter is communicating reliably with the data network.
