The Village of Ada has posted the following information on www.adaoh.org. regarding new licensing requirements for peddlers and solicitors. This includes a $25 fee, application review and background check.
Exemptions are made for nonprofits such as the Girl Scouts and churches.
Registered individuals must abide by Chapter 741 of the Codified Ordinances, including avoiding residents with "No Solicitation" or similar language posted.

If you are wanting to engage in the business of peddler, solicitor, canvasser or itinerant merchant, as defined in Section 741.03 or solicit sales of sell, offer for sale, barter, or exchange goods, wares or personal services in the Village of Ada, Ohio you must apply for a Pedder/Solicitors license.
Before you are able to conduct any of the aforementioned activities you must follow the directions below to obtain a Peddler/Solicitors license. If you violate any provision under Ordinance Chapter 741 you are guilty of a minor misdemeanor and, in addition, your registration may be revoked.
Per Ordinance Chapter 741, no person shall engage in the business of peddler, solicitor, canvasser, or itinerant merchant, as defined in Section 741.03 or solicit sales of, sell, offer for sale, barter, or exchange goods, wares or personal services without paying the required fee set forth in Section 741.02 and registering.
Getting a Permit and Registration Requirements
To apply for a permit, complete the Peddler and Solicitor License Application (PDF).
Each individual who will be soliciting must obtain a license.
Incorporated businesses must furnish a copy of their State of Ohio Certificate of Good Standing.
Non-profit agencies with a 501(C)(3) designation do not require a permit. However, they are required to provide their entity’s IRS determination letter. Examples are Girls Scouts and church organizations.
All License expire 1 year from the issue date.
Applications for registration for peddlers, solicitors, and itinerant merchants, as defined in this chapter, must be filed with the Ada Village Clerk’s Office on a form to be furnished by the Chief of Police. The forms shall contain the following information:
(1) Name of applicant;
(2) Home address;
(3) Name and address of the person by whom employed;
(4) Length of service with such employer;
(5) All places of residence and all employment during the preceding year;
(6) The nature and character of the goods to be sold or service to be furnished by the
applicant; and
(7) Period of time for which registration is valid.
(b) Completed BCI/FBI Webcheck. (Processing times vary. Please allow at least one week for processing.)
(c) If the Chief of Police determines after an investigation and review of the registration requirements that the applicant is of good moral character and proposes to engage in a lawful commercial or professional enterprise, such registration shall be made.
Payment
Payment is required at the time of submitting a solicitor application. Each application must include a $25 fee, or a group may submit a check or cash for the group of applications at $25 per application. The charge for renewal of a solicitor’s license is $25 per license.
Soliciting Requirements
Once your application has been reviewed and record checks completed, you will be contacted to pick up your permit at the Village of Ada Municipal Building. You must abide by Chapter 741 of the Codified Ordinances, including avoiding residents with "No Solicitation or similar language" posted and the hours of solicitation from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. No peddler, canvasser, solicitor, or itinerant merchant shall operate in the War Memorial Park without permission of the Park Board.
