Meet Elaine (Lani) Garber, the American Sign Language instructor at the Ada Schools.
Q. What is the one thing you cannot resist?
A. Chocolate and babies.
Q. What is your greatest fear?
A. My children or grandchildren being hurt.
Q. Where is your favorite place to be?
A. Sitting by my pond when the mosquitoes aren’t out
Q. Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
A. Up in the mountains of Colorado at Geneva Lake. It was peaceful.
Q. What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
A. Raising mice for pet snake food.

Q. What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
A. My favorite job was being a stay at home, mom, but I would choose teaching over anything else!
Q. Any favorite line from a movie?
A. Gravity is a harsh mistress.
Q. Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
A. I play French horn.
Q. If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
A. Yeshua – but would I have been smart enough to follow him then?
Q. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
A. If I could guarantee, I wouldn’t die? Hang gliding. Otherwise, crocheting.
Q. What are three words you’d use to describe Ada Schools?
A. Safe, diversified, fun.
Q. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do? What is the first thing you would buy?
A. I would pay off our farm and my student loans! Then I would invest in rental properties to leave to our kids.
Q. When you have 30 minutes of free time, how do you pass the time?
A. Free time? I’m not familiar with this concept.
Q. What is something you learned in the last week?
A. How to build a course in Canvas.
Q. What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
A. Hiking.
Q. What is the first concert you attended?
A. Chuck Mangione.
Q. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
A. Folding laundry
Q. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
A. It may sound trite, but Yeshua!
Q. How do you balance your career and family?
A. I don’t, very aware. I’m working on it!
Q. Is there anything else you would like to add?
A. I have too many interests and not enough time!
