New faculty at Ohio Northern, part 2

In November, the Icon reported on the introduction of new Ada community leaders. In collaboration with Ohio Northern's Office of Communication & Marketing, we are also introducing new faculty members. This is the second of several installments.

Kimberly Breedon is an Assistant Professor of Law at Ohio Northern University College of Law, where she teaches Property, Wills & Estates, and Legislation & Statutory Interpretation.

Her academic research focuses primarily on the constitutional and international law dimensions of corruption, or potential corruption, by government officials. She has published articles in several major law journals and has presented her work at international and national conferences, symposia, and workshops. Most recently, she was invited by the University of Copenhagen and the Royal Danish Defense Academy to present her paper, Disinformation, Corruption, and International Law, at a conference on Nordic Perspectives on the International Legal Regulation of Cyberspace (University of Copenhagen, September 2022). Prof. Breedon earned her J.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, and her LL.M. from Columbia University Law School. She enjoys hiking and winter sports, and she has a penchant for bad puns.

Abby Clark is an assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering department. Originally from Grove City, Ohio, Abby earned her bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ONU in 2012. She then spent several years as a researcher at Battelle in Columbus, Ohio, before attending graduate school at Ohio State. At OSU, she earned a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering Education. Her research focuses on the impact of informal engineering experiences on K12 students' perception of themselves as engineers and engineering as a field. Outside of work, Abby volunteers with the Girl Scouts, and enjoys playing board games with her family, reading, and crafting.

Xiangyi Cheng is an assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering at ONU. She is exploring interactive teaching techniques and investigating how to integrate more technology into class. She loves multidisciplinary applications and research such as robotics and human-computer interaction, which always drive her to look at a problem from different perspectives. Interestingly, she designed a tangible serious game for cognitive assessment as part of her Ph.D. research in mechanical engineering at Texas A&M University. Xiangyi is also a roller coaster enthusiast, so she is excited to live an hour and a half away from Cedar Point!

David Coolidge joins ONU as an Associate Professor and Head of Musical Theatre. He is a certified Master Teacher in Archetypes for Singers and Actors with specializations in New Works and Acting Through Song. David was a member of the Broadway National Tour of Parade, Jeff Calhoun’s highly acclaimed pre-Broadway production of Big River at Deaf West Theatre, and he has appeared in numerous roles in regional theatres across the country. David is the former Assistant Artistic Director of TheatreworksUSA in New York City where he directed six national tours and oversaw thirty national touring productions reaching an annual audience of over three million. David received his BFA in Musical Theatre from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music (CCM) and his MFA in Acting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Robert “Bob” Hartman is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy. Some of Bob’s life goals are (i) to see better what’s true, good, and beautiful and (ii) to promote the flourishing of the people around him. Bob loves teaching, and is pleased to be on the faculty at ONU. Bob is joined by his wife, Hillary, and kids Eve (7) and Leigh (6).  Bob’s research is primarily about moral luck, free will, character, and virtue, and he also applies this work to help solve ethical puzzles that arise in the Christian religion. He has conducted research as a postdoctoral fellow or as a visiting research professor at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), Stockholm University (Sweden), and Tulane University (New Orleans).
