Look for good things from Bruns, season opens Nov. 12 at home

Ryan Bruns, ONU  senior, was named First Team Preseason All-America in men's basketball for 2018-19 by D3hoops.com.

Bruns was a Second Team All-America by D3hoops.com and the National Basketball Coaches Association, was the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year and was First Team All-Great Lakes Region last season.

He was second on the team, third in the OAC and 12th nationally in scoring at 24.0 ppg last year.

He also led the team and the OAC and was 13th nationally with an ONU single-season junior record 65 blocked shots and is third in the league, averaging a team-best 8.7 rebounds per game.

He is ONU's all-time career blocked shots leader with 189.

Bruns currently ranks 26th all-time at ONU with 1,162 career points.

Bruns is the first All-American in men's basketball since Kyle Meyer in 2010 and is the 12th All-American in ONU men's basketball history.

The Polar Bears finished the 2017-18 season with a 19-9 record, were third in the OAC with a 12-6 record and reached the finals of the OAC Tournament in 2017-18.

Ohio Northern will open its 2018-19 season under third-year head coach Rich Bensman on Nov. 12 with a 7 pm home contest against area-rival Defiance at the ONU Sports Center.
