Ada's Mattson 9th in shot at state track meet

COLUMBUS - Ada junior Noah Mattson finished ninth in the shot put at the Div. III state track and field meet at Columbus in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Friday afternoon.

 

Mattson recorded a best effort of 50-1.75 on his fifth toss Friday in flight two. His first throw went 49-8.25, followed by a foul. On try three, he put the shot 49-6.5.

 

His fourth effort covered 49-8.25, followed by the 50-1.75 throw. Mattson's sixth and last toss covered 50-1.

 

Mattson's best regional toss was 50-5.

 

Junior Dominic Perry of Columbiana Crestview won the Div. III shot put title with a best toss of 56-8. Senior Travis Burton of Paint Valley was second at 56-4.5.

 

The top eight finishers in a state event score points. Perry scored 10 points with the first-place finish on his third throw. Meanwhile, Vince Oliver nosed Mattson out for the final point by coming in eighth.
