Men's soccer top honors

Four members of the Ohio Northern men's soccer team have been named Academic All-Ohio by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association for the 2017 season.

Seniors J.J. Fortner (Maumee/Anthony Wayne), Chris Garbig (Wilder, Ky./Highlands), Cory Lains (Zionsville, Ind.) and Mac Tompkins (Fairview, Pa.) all earned the honor.

Fortner, a Pharmaceutical and Health Care Business major, was named First Team Academic All-Ohio and earned his first career Academic All-Ohio honor.

The senior is also a 2-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree.

Garbig, an Accounting major from Wilder, Ky., was named First Team Academic All-Ohio for the second time in his career and earned his third Academic All-Ohio award.

He is also a 3-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree, a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, and a 2016 Second Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (United Soccer Coaches) Scholar All-American.

Lains, a Pharmaceutical Business major from Zionsville, Ind., was named First Team Academic All-Ohio and earned his first career Academic All-Ohio honor.

The senior is also a 3-time Academic All-Ohio honoree in his three years of eligibility for the honor.

Tomkins, a Mathematical Statistics major from Fairview, Pa., was named Second Team Academic All-Ohio and earned his first career Academic All-Ohio honor.

Tompkins is also a 3-time Academic All-Ohio honoree in his three years of eligibility for the honor
