Harry D. Simon, 95, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014,at 3:34 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima, surrounded by his family.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1919 in Putnam County, Ohio, to Edward “Dutch” and Rosa (Badertscher) Simon, who preceded him in death.
He was the Water and Street Superintendent in Walbridge, Ohio, retiring in 1982 after 22 years. He formerly worked for the Ada Water Department for several years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII. Harry was a 1936 graduate of Ada High School.
He was a life member of the Walbridge VFW Post #9963.
On Nov. 27, 1937, he married Dorothy Irene Geiger and she died Aug. 15, 1951. They had 5 children, Sandra Poland of Tiffin, Garry (Mary) Simon of Alger, and Donavon (Diana) Simon of Northwood, and was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Keith Simon and Charles Richard Simon.
He later married Evelyn Risner Daniels and she died Feb. 4, 2010. She had three children whom Harry raised as his own, Donna (Jerry) Jarvela of Perrysburg, Connie Ferris of Van Buren, and Dan Daniels of Toledo. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and two brothers, Evan Simon and Dale (Doris) Simon both of Ada.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Sylvan and Carl Simon; and two sisters, Alice Lansing and Mildred Simon.
A funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Pastor Trent Boedicker officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada. A military graveside service will be performed by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
