Ada chamber elects Vicki Wolke as vice president; Justin Courtney as board member

Vicki Wolke and Justin Courtney were elected to spots on the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce board during a July 18 breakfast meeting at McIntosh Center, ONU.

Wolke was elected board vice president and Courtney was elected as a member of the board. The two will serve through Dec. 31.

Deb Curlis, chamber president, mentioned several points of interest involving Ada at the breakfast. The chamber seeks ideas for ways to promote Ada, whether it is a garden tour, art walk or taste of the town. Those were suggestions mentioned at the meeting.

Curlis said that the Music on Main held July 14 was a success. It brought lots of people downtown.

Three Ada service club updates were provided:

• The Ada Rotary Club sold 170 barbecue chicken dinners during the Music on Main.
• The Ada Lions Club was involved in a clean up of the community following the June 29 storm. The club has sold 11 semi-trailer loads of mulch, which totals one-half million pounds.
• The Ada Kiwanis Club recently planted a tree in the Ada Park.

Businesses are urged to register for the Welcome Fest’ at ONU. The event is Monday, Aug. 20. Businesses may register for a table for $30 by Aug. 1. Registrations may be made at http:www.onu.edustudent_life/_activities/welcome_fest

• Applications for the harvest and herb festival are available at Health Chek, downtown Ada.
• The next Shop Ada First committee will meet at 8 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, at Community Health Professionals.
• The next  chamber meeting is at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, (third Thursday of each month) at Community Health Professionals.
• Liberty Belles and Boys 4-H Club food drive for the Ada food pantry, located at the Presbyterian Church, takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 28, in the Hays Insurance drive-thru.
• Lincoln Highway Buy-Way yard sale is Aug. 9-10-11. A booth will be set up at the Railroad Park downtown. It will include maps of local sales. Persons interested in being posted on the map should call the Ada village office by Aug. 1.
• The Farmers and Merchants Picnic Association will hold its annual picnic Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10-11, at the Park District of Liberty Township (formerly War Memorial Park.)
• Zak Dysert Day is set for Nov. 23, at Miami University. Plans continue to be underway for that event.

Anita Cook, marketing director of The Freed Center, provided members with the 2012-13 Freed Center program brochure. She said that there are opportunities for chamber members to have advertisements in the program sleeve and on a placement being created.
