Upper Scioto FFA chamber presents student awards

The Ohio Hi-Point-Upper Scioto Valley FFA Chapter held its annual awards banquet last month to recognize student accomplishments throughout the year.  Star Awards were handed out as well as the Honorary Member Award, which was given to Doug Putnam (owner of Putnam Wetlands), for his outstanding support and help with the chapter.

The Star Business Award was given to Dylan Hunsicker (senior).  The Star Eagle Award went to junior and chapter president, Jacob Parker. The Star Chapter Award was given to sophomore and chapter vice president, Cecily Preston.

Star Greenhand Awards went to four deserving freshmen: Peyton Dyer, Abbey Fry, Faith Holbrook and Amy Manns.

Scholarship Awards were presented to Seth Evans (senior), Wyatt Bishoff (junior), George Bauer (junior), Torey Thacker (sophomore), Peyton Dyer (freshman) and Elisha Lowery (freshman).

FFA advisor Breck Finch also handed out awards for outstanding community service hours to Seth Evans (senior), Spencer Holbrook (junior), Joshua Stinson (sophomore), and Chloe Hunsicker (freshman).

Fruit Sales Awards went to students who sold the most fruit this year. In first place was Cheyanne Howard (senior), second place was a tie between Kylie Hites and Isaac Smith (both freshmen) and third place was also a tie between Austin Decker and Elisha Lowery (both freshmen).

Many students also received pins provided by the National FFA Association for their Career Development Events.

Two USV 2013 graduate students were honored for earning their FFA State Degrees:  Kaitlyn Beale and Darcy Henderson. A big congratulations for a job well done goes out to all winners!

The new FFA officers for the 2014-15 school year are Jacob Parker, president; Cecily Preston, vice president; Shelby Purtee, treasurer; Abbey Fry, secretary; Amy Manns, sentinel; Torey Thacker, reporter and George Bauer, student advisor.
