President Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12:00 noon on Tuesday February 4th at the New China Restaurant, downtown Ada.
Jon Umphress offered the invocation.
The following membership anniversaries were noted: Scott Wills and Joe Ferguson (January 28, 2004); Marilyn Green (February 1, 1993); and and Peter Previte (February 1, 2011).
Dr. Brian Myers was acknowledged for recently co-authoring a paper titled “A two-step, single pot procedure for the synthesis of substituted dihydropyrazolo-pyrimidines”. He was not asked to spell the word.
In business:
-Treasurer Bryan Marshall provided members with a financial update.
-Secretary Myers reported on Kiwanis Youth Protection Guidelines. It will be discuss this at the next board meeting.
-A grant application has been received by the Ohio Kiwanis Foundation for the pediatric boards. There are some details that need to be submitted before they will consider us in May. The care bears have arrived. Jon Umphress shared a photo.
-The club will deliver chili to area shut-ins. on Thursday February 20th. A sign-up sheet was passed among the members to cook, package, and deliver. The committee is: Claudia Crawford, Bob McCurdy, Manda Bennett and Jon Umphress.
-It was noted that club member Matt Crawford is being promoted from Major to Lt. Coronel.
The club’s 62nd annual Pancake and Sausage Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 29th at the Ada High School. Tickets are now available from any club member.
-Jon Umphress reported that 90 years ago this week Ada Kiwanis Club was It is hoped that a group photo be taken at the annual Pancake and Sausage Day.
-The club’s next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11th immediately following the regular meeting.
-The 2014 Ohio Kiwanis Mid-Year Education Day will be held at the Marriott Columbus Airport March 8, 2014.
-The next Division 2 meeting is March 12, 2014 at Milano’s Café in Lima at 6:30 p.m.
-Ohio District of Kiwanis is doing a “Race for Membership.” They will provide different awards to any club that meets the requirements for new members.
-Kiwanis Education Minute: The first Kiwanis Club was organized in Detroit, Michigan in 1914. The club received a charter from the state of Michigan on January 21, 1915 – the day that is regarded as the birth date of Kiwanis.
-Something to Ponder: Isn’t it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do “practice”?
