Christopher Beaschler (2012 Ada High School graduate) suffered a deep bruise on his right calf muscle during practice on Thursday, was walking on crutches on Friday and started his first game at linebacker on Saturday for the University of Dayton Flyers.

The Flyers were in control and had a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. However, the Marist University Red Foxes scored the next 31 points and won the Pioneer Football League contest 31-20.

Beaschler, a redshirt freshman, is the son of Ron and Christy Beaschler and has had considerable playing time in all four Flyer games. He had three solo tackles and four assists in the game and for the season has eight solo tackles and 12 assists which places him in a tie for sixth place on the defensive stat sheet. He also plays on special teams.

Dayton and Marist are each 2-2 on the season and this was the first conference game for both. Dayton had won the previous four games against Marist.

Following the game, Flyer Head Coach Rick Chamberlin had high praise for Marist senior quarterback Chuckie Looney. The record-setting, two-time captain accounted for 354 total yards. He was 19 of 36 passing for 233 passing and carried the ball 10 times for 121 yards rushing. 

“Looney took over the game after the first quarter,” said Chamberlin. “He picked us apart with his passing and then took advantage of us with his legs when his receivers were covered.”

Chamberlin is also coach of the linebackers and is very pleased with the progress of Beaschler. 

“He’s been giving us great minutes on the defensive side of the ball and on special teams. Chris has a great work ethic and is improving on his tackling and defensive-reading techniques.  He’s going to be a special player for us for the next four years,” said Chamberlin.

The Flyers entertain the Davidson Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.

TRAX TIDBITS:

It was exciting to see three other Ada graduates involved on the field at Welcome Stadium. Junior Lorna Spar is a member of the Dayton Marching Band Flag Corps. A music therapy major, Lorna is the daughter of Don and Amy Spar.

Samantha Fell (senior marketing major) and Kenzie Fell (sophomore communications major) are Student Assistants for Athletic Communications working with Doug Hauschild, Director. Samantha and Kenzie are the daughters of Mike and Lisa Fell.
