LIMA __ The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 is seeking public comments on an intersection improvement project at State Route 67 and State Route 235 in Roundhead Township, Hardin County.
Safety at the intersection of State Route 67 and State Route 235 remains a persistent concern with crashes continuing to occur despite previous mitigation efforts. To address this issue, ODOT conducted a 2024 safety study which evaluated three potential intersection treatments. ODOT has selected Alternative 1, a centered circular roundabout, as the recommended preferred alternative to reduce crashes and crash severity.
ODOT secured design and construction funding for the project through Ohio's Highway Safety Program (HSIP).
The project is currently in the planning phase and is expected to proceed into detailed design later this year with construction expected in 2028.
Following a comprehensive 2001 study, ODOT implemented several improvements at the intersection, notably:
- Enhanced signs and pavement markings, including flashing LED intersection ahead signs.
- Removed a continuous right turn on the south leg (2004).
- Improved sight distance by purchasing additional right-of-way and shifting SR 67 further south (2008).
