PANDORA – The visiting Ada High School boys basketball team stymied Blanchard Valley Conference rival Pandora-Gilboa 50-21 on Friday, February 7.
Ada jumped to a 14-2 lead after the first quarter and was not threatened.
The Bulldogs led 24-13 at halftime. Ada authored a 15-2 third period with stifling defense to put the game out of reach. The purple and gold won the final stanza 11-6 to blast the Rockets 28-6 in the second half.
The 21 points Ada allowed was their lowest defensive result of the season. They gave up 25 in consecutive games vs. Perry and Elgin December 27-28.
The Bulldogs improved to 13-7 overall and finished a solid 7-3 in the BVC with the convincing win.
Pandora-Gilboa fell to 9-10 overall and 5-4 in BVC play after the defeat.
“It was a great team win,” said Ada head coach Chris Sautter. “We won it on the defensive end. We held them to two points in the first and third quarters.”
Ada sophomore Carson Conley led the victors with 16 points. Bulldog sophomore Kolton Dysert tallied eight markers.
Ada senior Levi Green added seven points. Juniors Gavin Oldfield and Kaylen Hickman scored five apiece.
Rocket senior Lane Lee led P-G with 12 points. The rest of the low-scoring Rockets combined to score just nine.
“We were battling illness, so we had to go deep into our bench and got contributions from everybody,” Sautter noted. “I am proud of how they played.”
Ada canned 17 two-point field goals, and the Bulldogs drained three triples. Ada converted seven free throw attempts.
P-G connected on just six two-pointers and splashed a pair of trifectas. The Rockets sank three foul shots.
Ada improved to 10-2 on the road with the decisive victory.
Ada also won the JV game, 38-21. The Bulldog reserves improved to 15-5 overall and 7-3 in the BVC with the victory.
Liberty-Benton sits alone atop the Blanchard Valley Conference at 8-0, with Arlington second at 7-1. Van Buren is third at 7-2, while Ada is fourth at 7-3.
Ada hosts non-league foe North Baltimore (6-14) Saturday. The JV game tips off at 4 p.m. NB lost 79-56 to NWCC leader Ridgemont Friday.
“They are a young team that just keeps getting better,” said Sautter of NB. “They have three guys that can really score it. We’re going to have to be really good defensively again.”
