Recap of October 15 Ada Council meeting

The October 15 regular meeting of the Village of Ada Council advanced legislation on three items including discussion on whether to require photo badges and background checks for individuals who are soliciting door to door. An extensive report on water plant maintenance was provided. The full meeting packet is HERE.

LEGISLATION
Council unanimously approved a resolution to accept the Bid of A&A Safety Inc. for the Buckeye Avenue One-Way Traffic Flow Project.

Council unanimously approved the 2nd reading of an Ordinance to Provide a Refuse Collection System and Regulate Solid Waste and Recycling Disposal within the Village of Ada, Ohio. 

Council approved the 1st reading of an ordinance amending certain sections of Chapter 741 of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Ada, Ohio. The amendments would increase the registration fee to $25, move registration to the Village Clerk’s office and require a BCI/FBI webcheck for each individual peddler, solicitor or merchant. Exceptions to this requirement were discussed such as educational, civic, religious or charitable organizations from within Hardin County. Jane Napier, the Village legal counsel, will create a revised version for the 2nd reading.

POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Alec Cooper reported that since the last council meeting, the Ada Police Department received 78 calls for service, filed 8 incident reports and responded to 1  vehicle accident. Cooper commented that the department is seeing an increase in mental health related cases.

ZONING INSPECTOR
New zoning inspector Michele Chambers did not have a case report. She noted that residents are recognizing her as she drives through town and are asking questions about permits.

VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR
Jamie Hall provided council with three memos detailing topics and questions to be addressed: length of farmland lease, wastewater plant control system replacement, and water plant projects and EPA inspection.

The first memo asked for direction on the farmland lease contract on 33 acres in the Village’s industrial complex. He explained that the current lease holder would like to apply fall fertilizer but the contract is not renewed until February. 

The second memo detailed the need to replace an obsolete control system for the wastewater treatment plant. Hall asked for a motion to proceed with vendor selection and provided budget information on the $180-200K project.

The third memo detailed water plant projects that are in progress: inspection of two clear well tanks and 100K gallon cone water tanks, as well as replacement of clarifier mixer motor assemblies. The replacement of a high service motor pump has been scheduled. Other water plant improvements costing $25K will be presented on November 5.

Hall also reported that the required lead service line inventory was submitted to the EPA and that public notification will be on the Village website and park bulletin board.

Hall made the reminder that Leaf Pickup does not begin until October 28. Leaves and other debris can be taken out to Village green waste compost site at end of Pebble Ct. Call the water office at 419-634-4045 if you are coming to drop off materials.
