The Ada Exempted Village Schools issued the following statement by Remind text message on Friday, September 6, 2024.
Parents and Students,
We are excited for Football Friday and the opportunity to cheer our Bulldogs to victory!
Last Thursday, a message went out to remind parents and students of the rules established by a Board Resolution in regards to student attendance at sporting events. These rules were established the previous year to address the increased attendance at sporting events due to free student tickets and to encourage school spirit. However, with a very limited number of administrative staff to help at games, these rules were hard to enforce. This resulted in frequent physical altercations, regular arguments/other issues between students, and many unaccompanied elementary students at each game. Collectively, these factors created a safety concern for our students that could not be ignored this year.
We also value the voices of parents and staff members who came to the administration and shared their concerns about not having an area for kids to play, which has been a past practice for many years.
Through several collaborative conversations, a plan was created that allows a space for our students to play or socialize (without a parent) while maintaining a safe environment.
Starting today (9/6), students may play or socialize in the open area behind the east wing of the bleachers (highlighted in yellow in the image below). The smaller area will allow for better supervision by both school administrators and the Ada Police.
The northwest corner of the stadium, is large, poorly lit, and a walkway for the visiting team’s guests to the restroom, making it hard to supervise. This was also the location of most of the safety concerns last year.
Therefore, students have three options:
-Cheer our Bulldogs on in the stands
-Be under the direct supervision of their parent
-Play/socialize in the supervised student area
We appreciate your support and look forward to a Bulldog Victory!
