Bulldog boys tennis edged by Fostoria in home finale

Williams finishes third in first singles at NBTL championships

ADA __ The Ada High School boys tennis team lost 3-2 to Fostoria on Senior Night at the park Monday evening, May 6.

The Bulldogs dropped to 0-7 with the close defeat.

Ada junior Nathan Williams dominated at first singles 6-0, 6-0. He double-bageled Redman senior Roberto Torios to post his seventh victory of the season.

Improving sophomore Justin Bowden won his first match of the season at second singles 6-1, 6-3 over sophomore Gulmario Torios.

Freshman Brandon Prater was defeated 6-2, 6-4 at third singles.

Junior Luke Archer and sophomore Josh Thaxton lost 6-1, 6-0 at first doubles. 

Senior Jesse Okuly and freshman Lawson Klingler were beaten 6-1, 6-2 at second doubles.  

Lone Ada senior Okuly was recognized before the final home match of the season.

Last Friday, Ada finished seventh at the eight-team Northern Buckeye Tennis League championships at Defiance College.

The tournament was held on three indoor courts at Defiance when the event was moved from Bryan due to rainy weather.

Williams finished third in the NBTL first singles flight to post the top Bulldog finish. He was the only Ada player to win a match at the tournament.

Bryan and Miami Valley Country Day tied for first with 16 points apiece. Bryan won the tiebreaker to claim the team crown. 

Sectionals are this Thursday and Saturday at UNOH in Lima. Williams (8-3) was seeded third in the 32-player singles tournament.

Top four finishers/semifinalists in singles and doubles advance to the district tournament at Bowling Green the next week.
