Recap of April 2 Ada Council Meeting

Pebble Court resident brings paving concerns to council

By Paula Pyzik Scott

The April 2 meeting of the Ada Council was a brief session with no committee reports and only one piece of legislation.

OPEN FLOOR
A Pebble Court resident addressed the Mayor and Council during the Open Floor segment to express her concern about the condition of that street, which is paved to about its midpoint.

Pebble Court is located north of E. Lincoln Ave. between Simon Ct. and Parkview Village. It is nominally not a through street but Village trucks and others use it, according the the resident. She observed that it is not well maintained when snow covered and icy, and is a dust bowl in the summer. “This has been going on 15 years,” she commented.

Village administrator Jamie Hall noted that at the prior council meeting he presented two price options to council for 4” and 5” paving but that the cost of about $25K would need to be found in this summer’s paving project budget or funds leftover from the Montford project, dependent on bids and actual costs.

CONTINUES

Mayor Dave Retterer thanked the resident for bringing her concerns to council and encouraged her not to give up on the subject.

RESOLUTIONS
Council approved a resolution to update bank and financial institution account signatories. Now that checks are processed electronically, the entire council does not need to have this authority.

POLICE DEPT. REPORT
Chief Alec Cooper reported that there were 70 calls for service, 11 incident reports and 2 vehicle accidents since the last council meeting.

Cooper noted that the department served a search warrant (reported HERE) in connection with an arrest in Indiana.

The Chief asked to review what the department charges for making copies, which is current below the actual cost of making copies. He noted that this week he had a 700-800 page request. Council approved updating the policy to the maximum the State of Ohio allows (currently 10 cents).

ZONING
Zoning Inspector Michael Harnishfeger reported that there are currently 10 open zoning issues and that at the end of April he will go to court with two failure to comply cases.

VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR
Village Administrator Jamie Hall reported that the associate water plant operator’s last day is May 3 and that there are four applications in hand for first interviews.

Hall will be meeting with Mark Doll, director of Hardin County Regional Planning Commission, to discuss upcoming CDBG projects. The village can start engineering on projects receiving $750K in grant funding.

MEETINGS
The meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Ada Council is Tuesday, April 16.
