ADA__The youthful Ada High School baseball team lost 12-0 to visiting county rival Hardin Northern on Monday, March 26.
The Bulldogs start out 0-1, while HN is 1-0 after winning the local rivalry game.
Polar Bear pitcher Xander Wilson started and hurled all five innings for HN. He fired a one-hit shutout and struck out 11 Bulldogs.
HN tallied single runs in the second and third frames, then broke it open with seven scores in the fourth. The visitors tacked on three more in the top of the fifth to involve the 10-run rule after retiring Ada in the bottom of the fifth.
HN senior Landon Wetherill led the Bear offense with three hits, three runs batted in and four runs. He hit a pair of doubles and a single.
Bear Mason Stewart collected two doubles, scored four runs and drove in two more. DH Nolan Hopson compiled two hits, two RBI and a run.
Branson Grindell crossed home plate twice. Kruz Curtis contributed a double, single, an RBI and one run.
Wilson did not walk a batter and faced only 17 batters, two above the minimum for a five-inning game. He threw 64 pitches, 46 of which were strikes or in play.
Ada junior first baseman Max Puerto singled in the home fourth inning and stole second base. But he was stranded after a Wilson strikeout ended the threat.
Ada starter Mason Wibley allowed five runs on five hits with two walks over three innings. Freshman southpaw Tyler Stauffer pitched two-thirds of a shutout inning in relief.
HN out-hit the Bulldogs 12-1 and drilled six doubles. Ada committed four errors to one miscue by Northern.
