John L. "Jack" McInturf was an engineer

Jack McInturf 89, Ada Ohio passed away December 10, 2023 in Marysville, Ohio. Born May 27, 1934 in Morgan County Ohio, he was the second child and oldest son of a family of 13.

He was a brilliant and inquisitive man who loved the challenge and opportunity of learning new skills and disciplines. He earned a BSCE degree from Ohio University and worked as an engineer at US Steel and then Sunoco. His career at Sunoco led him and his young family on exciting adventures as he accepted assignments in distant oil refineries including Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and Sarnia, Ontario Canada. In his younger years in Puerto Rico, he enjoyed playing tennis and earned his private pilot’s license flying his family throughout the Caribbean and US Virgin Islands. Upon retirement he bought a farm and began planning and building their forever dream home. He also developed interests in farming, ham radio, woodworking, stained glass cutting, stock market research and investing, and keeping up with all of today’s modern electronics and technologies. 

Jack’s greatest joy was his family and watching his three grandsons grow up.  He was a tremendous provider for his family and generous and kind in all areas of his life.  Being the big brother to many younger siblings, he was known to be a generous and caring man who was quick to help out in times of need.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Daniel Curt and Mary Helen Geddes McInturf, an infant daughter Kelly Rae, three brothers, Roger, Dan, and Gary (infant) McInturf and two sisters Phyllis Jean Brown and Karen Biggers, a brother-in-law Lynn Brown, a sister-in-law Shirley McInturf and two nephews Tom McInturf and Robb Hook.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Shirley Iffert McInturf, a son Marc McInturf (Becky) of Westerville and daughter Jane Peck of Marysville, three grandsons John McInturf (Clarissa) of Urbana, Ryan Peck (McKinzi) of Marysville, and Sam McInturf (Jenni Cullen) of Columbus, and one great grandson Benjamin McInturf.  He is also survived by four brothers: Bill McInturf, Bob (Sue) McInturf, Don (Lynda) McInturf, and Pat (Janet) McInturf; and three sisters: Dolores (Rex) Klingler, Marj (Dave) Helm and Linda (Doug) Williams and two sisters-in-law: Patricia McInturf and Patty McInturf; twenty-eight nieces and nephews, forty great nieces and nephews and six great, great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
