The following questions were answered by Zack Dunn, Ada High School chemistry and physics teacher.
Q. What is the one thing you cannot resist?
A. I love a good discussion/debate. I know a lot of people view such things negatively and try to avoid them, but I think that they can be quite edifying if both parties enter into the discussion with open minds and treat each other respectfully.
Q. Where is your favorite place to be?
A. My favorite place to be is at my computer playing video games with my friends.
Q. Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
A. I really enjoyed a trip I took with my family to Niagra Falls. It was amazing to observe the natural beauty and power of the falls. A close second would probably be a trip I took to New Orleans for a chemistry conference.
Q. What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
A. I would probably be working in a chemical lab, writing novels, or streaming/creating content for video games, especially World of Warcraft.
Q. Any favorite line from a movie?
A. "That still only counts as one!" - Gimli (Return of the King)
Q. What is something that might surprise us about you?
A. I can do the splits.
Q. If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
A. I would pick my Grandpa Keith, who did serve as a mentor to me. He was a long-time teacher at Perry and we couldn't go anywhere around Lima without running into former students of his. When he passed away, the turn out for his viewing and funeral were huge and a lot of it was former students. I hope I am able to impact students in a similar way in my classes.
Q. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
A. If time weren't a factor, I would love to learn more about how to code.
Q. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do? What is the first thing you would buy?
A. The first thing I would do is pay off my mortgage and the first thing I would buy is the best PC I can find.
Q. When you have 30 minutes of free time, how do you pass the time?
If I only have a small amount of free time I will usually pass it by doing something on my phone. I might browse social media, watch YouTube, read CNN, communicate with friends or family using texts or Discord, etc.
Q. What is something you learned in the last week?
Since I am new to the district I have learned a lot in the last week about how things are done here at Ada.
Q. What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
A. I love to sing.
Q. What is the first concert you attended?
A. I can't remember which concert was my first, but one that stands out to me is when my older brother and I went to see a rock concert headlined by Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed.
Q. What music is on your phone?
A. I like a lot of music, but if I'm choosing what to listen to, it's usually country or rock.
Q. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
A. I hate mowing and yardwork.
Q. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
A. Harvey Milk
Q. How do you balance your career and family?
A. I don't have a significant other or children right now and my cat, Tom, is pretty flexible with my schedule, so it's not too big of a problem for me at the moment.
