Bulldog football travels far to face new foe in week 3

By Cort Reynolds

The Ada High School football team plays a completely new foe in unbeaten Buckeye Central at New Washington in Crawford County this Friday, September 1, in week three.

The road trip is an approximate 65-mile one-way jaunt.

The Bucks (2-0) blanked hapless Crestline 50-0 in week one, and crushed Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic 57-0 last Friday night. Both of BC’s opponents are 0-2 this season, but the Bucks are dangerous.

“Buckeye Central is 2-0 for a reason,” said Smith. “They are skilled and will be a tough test for us.

“They run a spread offense like us, and they throw more than run,” Smith noted. “But they will run it if the defense tells them to run.”

BC is tied for eighth in the Div. VII, Region 25 rankings with Steubenville Central Catholic. They are a member of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference. Bucyrus, Wynford, Upper Sandusky, Carey, Seneca East, Mohawk and Colonel Crawford are other league members.

The Bucks were 3-7 last year. BC won its first three games in 2022, but ended the season on a seven-game losing skid to miss the playoffs.

Ada (1-1) is tied for 14th in the Div. VII, Region 26 rankings after losing to Riverdale 40-27 last Friday.

“We need to stop giving up big plays if we expect to compete,” Smith warned.
